The original Buffalo King shipped with a theoretical max win of 93,750x. On paper, staggering. In practice, a number so improbable it existed mainly for marketing. Pragmatic Play's Megaways rework, released in April 2021, brought that number down to 5,000x - a cap that actual players hit. The probability sits at 1 in 1,033,057 spins, still rare, but within the realm of documented wins. Community tracking shows a recorded top win of around 629,000 EUR across 255,000+ tracked spins.
The game scored 8 out of 10 from a major review site, called "a rather conventional but fairly enjoyable addition to the Megaways series." That sums it up. Buffalo King Megaways runs on a proven formula - variable reel grid, tumble wins, multiplier wilds - and executes it without surprises. The buffalo-and-prairie theme stays in the background. The math model does the heavy lifting.
This is the second game in the Buffalo King series, sitting between the original and Buffalo King Untamed Megaways (which later pushed the max win to 10,000x across 86,436 ways). Five years after release, it still holds space in casino lobbies - a quiet endorsement of the core mechanic.
The standout mechanic. During Free Spins, every Wild that lands on reels 2 through 5 carries a random multiplier - 2x, 3x, or 5x. These don't add together. They multiply.
Two Wilds with 3x and 5x in the same tumble sequence produce a 15x multiplier on the total win for that sequence. Land three across consecutive tumbles - say 5x, 5x, and 3x - and the combined multiplier hits 75x. The multiplication applies at the end of the entire tumble chain, so the win accumulates across all tumbles before the multiplier scales it.
This mirrors what Sweet Bonanza does with multiplier bombs, but routed through Wild symbols instead. The practical difference: Wilds also substitute in winning combinations, so they contribute to both the base win and the multiplier that scales it. A single tumble chain with two or three multiplier Wilds in Free Spins is where the game produces its largest payouts.
Free Spins trigger from 4, 5, or 6 Scatters landing anywhere, awarding 12, 17, or 22 spins plus an instant payout of 5x, 20x, or 100x bet. During the round, 3 or more Scatters add 5 extra spins with no cap on retriggers. That unlimited retrigger potential, combined with multiplying Wilds, creates the high-variance tail the game is built around.
Standard Megaways slots max out at 117,649 ways (7 symbols across 6 reels). Buffalo King Megaways pushes past that to 200,704. The extra ways come from a horizontal top reel spanning reels 2 through 5, spinning independently from right to left.
The main grid uses 6 reels. Reels 1 and 6 show up to 7 symbols per spin. Reels 2 through 5 display up to 8. Add the 4-position top reel, and the way count climbs beyond the BTG standard. In practice, this means slightly more winning combinations per spin on average, though individual spins still vary depending on how many symbols each reel generates.
Tumble wins clear winning symbols from the grid, dropping new ones in from above. Reel sizes stay fixed for the duration of a spin - if reel 3 started with 6 symbols, replacement symbols maintain that count. Tumbles continue until no new wins form. All wins across a tumble sequence add together before being credited.
The Ante Bet costs 25% more per spin and doubles the chance of triggering Free Spins naturally. More Scatter symbols appear on the reels without changing paytable values. The trade-off: max win drops from 5,000x to 4,000x. In absolute currency, the cap stays the same since your bet is 25% higher - you're paying for frequency, not potential.
Buy Free Spins costs 100x your total bet and triggers the bonus round immediately. The number of spins depends on how many Scatters the game randomly places (4, 5, or 6 for 12, 17, or 22 spins). One restriction: the Buy Feature is disabled when Ante Bet is active. Pick one or the other.
Progressive jackpots - Grand, Mega, Major, Minor - trigger randomly at the end of base game spins through a pick game. These are operator-configured and not active at every casino. Higher bets increase the trigger chance, and a minimum bet threshold applies. When they're present, they add an outside shot at a prize beyond the 5,000x cap.
Buffalo is the top-paying regular symbol at 400x bet for six of a kind, 200x for five. Wolf follows at 125x/50x, then eagle at 75x/25x. Cougar and moose share the same values at 30x/15x for six/five. Card ranks (Ace through 10) fill the lower end, ranging from 20x down to 12x for six of a kind.
All pays multiply by the number of ways, not by a fixed line bet. With up to 200,704 ways active, even mid-tier symbols produce reasonable returns when enough reels align. The six-of-a-kind buffalo pay of 400x across a full-way hit, scaled by a 75x multiplier from three Wilds in Free Spins, is the kind of math that pushes toward the 5,000x ceiling.
