Thunderkick's May 2026 release, Alice Time Rift, takes us back down the rabbit hole, but this time with a really cool steampunk vibe. What makes this game interesting is that it doesn't rely on a dozen different features. Instead, it builds almost everything around a single symbol: the pocket watch.

The short version: the base game is lean, and the bonus lives or dies on one expanded spin.

Alice Time Rift Bonus Game: two pocket-watch Time Rifts and two Alice symbols locked on the middle row of reels 1 to 4 during a Sticky Respin, steampunk Wonderland backdrop
This is the shape the whole bonus is waiting for: watches and Alice locked side by side, and once the respin ends the watches turn into Alice too.

The Base Game & The Pocket Watch Mechanic

The pocket watch pulls double duty as both your wild and your scatter, but if a watch lands on its own, it's a dead symbol. Its respins only kick in if it's part of a winning payline. When that happens, it locks the winning symbols in place and triggers Sticky Respins.

This creates a great snowball effect. Because every new watch locks too, a spin that starts with just two watches can chain together enough respins to land the five watches you need for the top-tier bonus before the base spin even officially ends.

If you don't want to wait around, BET+ offers two options that raise your chances of triggering the bonus naturally: Bonus Boost prices each spin at 1.5x your bet and makes the bonus twice as likely, while Bonus Boost Plus prices it at 2.5x for five times the chance.

Every new watch locks where it lands, so a board that opens with two can keep respinning until there are five of them on it.

The Bonus Rounds (And What They Cost)

Triggering the Bonus Game (either naturally or through one of the three feature buys) gives you 8, 10, or 12 free spins depending on how many scatters you land. But the scatter count is actually way more important than just the number of spins: it dictates what kind of expanding symbol you get:

  • 3 Scatters (3+ Scatter Bonus Game, 100x buy): The expanding symbol is drawn at random from any symbol, card ranks included.
  • 4 Scatters (4+ Scatter Bonus Game, 200x buy): You are guaranteed one of the character symbols.
  • 5 Scatters (5 Scatter Bonus Game, 500x buy): You are guaranteed Alice, the highest-paying symbol in the game.

During the free spins, your chosen symbol locks in place during any respins. When the respins end, any watches on the screen transform into your special symbol. If you cover three or more reels, they expand and pay across all 10 lines (very similar to a "Book of" game). As a nice bonus, if you stack two or three of your chosen symbols on a single reel, it slaps a x2 or x3 multiplier on that reel.

The banner says it plainly: four watches get you a character as the expanding symbol, five get you Alice.

My Experience: Buying the 500x Bonus

To see what the game could really do, I bit the bullet and bought the 500x top-tier bonus.

Because the triggering spin actually plays out, I collected a few respins and won 9x my bet before the free spins even started. The bonus itself was pretty nerve-wracking. Most of the spins were dead and paid next to nothing. However, late in the round, I finally got two watches and two Alice symbols to lock across the first four reels. They expanded (just at a standard x1 multiplier) and paid a massive 166x in a single hit.

Altogether, the round returned about a third of my 500x purchase price. It's a harsh but fair reminder: even when you pay a big premium to guarantee the best symbol on the board, this is a highly volatile slot. It can still burn you.

No Alice anywhere, so nothing expands and the spin only pays whatever lines happen to form. Most of my bought bonus looked like this.

How It Compares to Other Slots

Alice Time Rift doesn't belong to an existing series, but if you play a lot of slots, some of its pieces will look familiar.

Mechanically, the free spins feel a lot like Pragmatic Play's Book of Chilli - Big Bass Jackpot Bonanza, but with a major difference. While Book of Chilli caps at a 5,000x max win and leaves your expanding symbol entirely up to RNG on a 100x buy, Alice allows you to pay a premium to completely remove that randomness.

Within Thunderkick's own catalog, it shares the lock-and-respin vibe with Midas Golden Touch: Thunder Pots and Temple of Akhet. It is worth noting, however, that Alice Time Rift has a slightly lower RTP at 94.10% (compared to Midas at 94.22%), which might annoy some RTP purists.

Thematically, if you like the dark/steampunk fairytale aesthetic, it sits nicely alongside Hacksaw's Time Spinners or Peter & Sons' Greedy Alice.

Alice Time Rift is a beautifully designed game with a really engaging base-game loop. The lock-and-respin mechanic keeps things exciting, and I love that the bonus buy lets you pay to remove the RNG of the expanding symbol. Just tread carefully with that 500x buy: it's a high-risk gamble that demands deep pockets and a lot of luck.

The five-watch buy is the one that takes the randomness out: whatever expands in that bonus is always Alice.
