Pragmatic Play is taking us back to ancient Greece with Chronos - Sands of Eternity (slated for a November 2026 release). While the Greek Titan of time is a familiar theme, what actually caught my attention here is the game's four-tier bonus round. Rather than just giving you free spins, the game makes you work your way up a ladder, changing the mechanics as you go.

Climbing the Free Spins Ladder
Triggering the bonus (you'll need 3 to 5 scatters) gets you 6 to 10 free spins on a brand new layout. In Level 1, the game guarantees at least one 2x2 oversized premium or wild block on every spin, carrying a multiplier between 1x and 12x.
However, there's a problem: that multiplier only applies if a winning payline runs directly through the block. Seeing a massive multiplier land on the screen does nothing if it doesn't connect, which can be a bit frustrating since the multipliers reset every spin and nothing carries over.
The real goal is to climb the progression meter above the reels. Every scatter you land is collected, and grabbing three bumps you up a level while adding six extra spins to your queue.
- Level 2 upgrades you to 3x3 blocks on the middle reels with multipliers up to 24x.
- Level 3 keeps those big blocks but raises the floor, guaranteeing the multiplier will be between 12x and 24x.
- Level 4 is where things get wild. The game completely shifts gears, removing standard symbols so that only blanks, money symbols, and collect symbols land for the six spins of that level.

My Experience and the Bonus Buys
If you're the type who likes to skip the base game, you've got options. The standard bonus buy is 100x your bet, or you can shell out 200x for the "Super" version (which doesn't give you extra spins, but raises the minimum multipliers in the first three levels). If you prefer playing the base game but want better odds, there are two Ante Bets: pay 50% more per spin to double your trigger chances, or 150% more to quintuple them. (Keep in mind, turning these on locks the bonus buy menu).
I bought the 200x Super Free Spins. It was a tough run: I only got back about a sixth of my buy-in. I managed to collect two scatters, agonizingly missing the level-up and extra spins by just one.
My playthrough also really highlighted how dependent the game is on line hits. On one spin, a 6x block lined up perfectly with six winning lines to pay out 29x (which was almost my entire return for the round). On the other five spins, the guaranteed blocks completely missed my paylines, paying out a measly 2x combined.

How it Compares to Other Slots
If you play a lot of Pragmatic slots, Chronos will feel familiar next to their other collect-and-level games. The progression meter feels a lot like Big Bass Splash, though Chronos offers a higher max win of 7,500x (compared to Big Bass's 5,000x). It also has a lot in common with Hearts of Venus, which uses a similar 3-scatter level-up system but operates on a highly volatile scatter-pays grid with a massive 25,000x cap. Chronos sits at a much more manageable medium volatility.
Chronos - Sands of Eternity is a solid slot with a really clever concept, but it comes with a built-in double-edged sword.
The defining trait of this game is how that final Level 4 is funded. Because the Level 4 money symbols draw their values directly from the wins you achieved in Levels 1 through 3, a bonus that starts poorly has very little to draw on for the grand finale. If you struggle to connect those multiplier blocks early on, Level 4 won't be able to save you. But if you hit big in the early levels, that final tier could snowball into something incredible. It's a fun, momentum-based game, just be prepared for the times when the paylines don't quite align.
