Cougar Blitz Slot Review

If you're a fan of the games in Playtech's Blitz line, you'll feel right at home with Cougar Blitz. Released in July 2026, this North American wildlife-themed slot sticks to a classic 6-reel, 4,096-ways-to-win layout. What stands out immediately is how traditional the gameplay is, there are no feature buys or ante bets here. You just have to spin and earn the bonus the old-fashioned way.

Up front: Cougar Blitz shares its RTP, max win, bet range and bonus rules with Grizzly Blitz (which actually came out a month later). On every published figure the two match, so if you've played one, you're mostly picking which animal you prefer to look at.

Since you can't buy your way in, you'll be hunting for scatters. Landing 3, 4, 5, or 6 of them triggers the Free Games feature, awarding 8, 15, 25, or a massive 100 free spins, respectively.

Once you're in the bonus, the Diamond Wilds get a major upgrade. Instead of just substituting for other symbols, they randomly apply a 2x, 3x, or 5x multiplier to any win they are part of.

Here is where the game makes a specific mathematical choice that players might feel divided on: if you land multiple wilds in a win, their values add together rather than multiply each other. So, a 2x and a 3x wild will give you a 5x multiplier, not a 6x. A full line of five wilds maxes out at 25x.

While this additive math definitely keeps the payouts a bit more grounded compared to games where multipliers multiply each other for explosive hits, the game balances this out by being incredibly generous with retriggers. You only need two scatters to get 5 extra free spins, and there's no limit to how many times you can retrigger. Every pair of scatters that lands inside the feature pushes the spin count up again.

Cougar Blitz fits nicely into Playtech's wider catalog. It shares a solid 95.94% RTP and a very respectable 13,373x max win with Grizzly Blitz.

If you prefer a slot with more modern bells and whistles, you might want to look at Buffalo Blitz 3. That game adds feature buys, an expanded 14,400-ways layout, and multiple bonus modes, though it trades those extras for a lower RTP (95.55%) and a much lower max win (4,684x).

When compared to outside competitors like Buffalo King Megaways or Buffalo Supreme, which multiply their wilds together for bigger hits, Cougar Blitz caps each win's multiplier lower. It trades that crazy, unpredictable potential for a simpler bonus loop powered by two-scatter retriggers.

Cougar Blitz isn't going to win any awards for innovation, and players who love the instant gratification of feature buys might skip it. However, if you like straightforward, no-nonsense gameplay with a good math model and a bonus round that can keep itself going, since two scatters retrigger it with no limit, it's a really solid choice.
