I recently tried out Orbital Rush (a June 2026 release from Riddec Games), and it's a breath of fresh air. If you're tired of staring at traditional spinning reels, this one swaps the usual grid for a step-based "CrossyRun" format. Instead of hoping for paylines, you're guiding a little space duck down a path of multipliers and traps. It's a pure push-your-luck game, and I found myself getting surprisingly invested in it.

The Setup: Push Your Luck
You won't find free spins or scatters here. Before you even place your first bet, the game lays out a 100-step path in front of you. You can see exactly where the good stuff (multiplier planets, extra lives, portals) and the bad stuff (skull "Death" cells) are hiding.
Every roll of the dice moves your space duck 1 to 6 spaces, and every roll costs a bet. Hit a planet, and the money goes into your Cash Pot. Hit a skull, and the round is over and your pot is wiped. But you can cash out after any successful step. It really messes with your head in the best way, do you take your 10x win and run, or risk one more roll? Because every step costs a bet, you have to make sure your pot is actually outpacing what you're spending.

Cool Features (and a Little Heartbreak)
A couple of special spaces make the path a lot more interesting. Landing on a Heart gives you an Extra Life, which acts as a shield against the next skull you hit. Then there are Portals, which warp your duck 7 to 10 spaces ahead, skipping any hazards in between. (Full disclosure: the dice hated me and I never actually landed on a Portal, but it's nice knowing they're on the map!)
The tension in this game is real. My best run lasted about a dozen rolls. I managed to snag a Heart early on, which saved my skin when I hit a skull a few rolls later. I watched my pot climb to 21x, pushed my luck to 24x... and then hit a second skull and lost it all. Heartbreaking, but that's exactly where the game shines. Because you can see the board, every roll feels like a choice you own.
Fair warning, though: the game can be unforgiving. Out of a couple dozen rounds, I had quite a few where my very first roll landed directly on a skull. Short runs are just part of the deal here.

Autoplay Actually Plays Strategy
I have to shout out the Autoplay feature because it's way more detailed than your average slot. You can set it to adjust your bets after wins or losses, but the best part is the automatic Cashout target. If you know you get too greedy (guilty!), you can just tell the game to automatically bank your pot once it hits a certain multiplier. It takes the nervous sweating out of pressing the cash-out button on every single step.
Orbital Rush is a bit of an experiment for Riddec Games, who usually stick to standard reel slots. Its 96% RTP is pretty standard, though its 1,000x max win (waiting at the 100th step "Final Boss") is definitely on the lower side compared to their other games like Ultimate KO (7,500x) or Song for Dragon (2,187x).
But you don't play this one for massive, life-changing jackpots. You play it for the format. Compared to other alternative games like IGT's Santa's Workshop Mines or Endorphina's Blue Slot Dice, the visible map and the sheer control you have over cashing out make Orbital Rush stand out. If you like strategy and don't mind the occasional brutal dice roll, it's a really fun detour from the usual casino games.
