Listed for release on 22 October 2026, Pragmatic Play's Rat Royale takes a surprisingly dark turn with its "rat court" theme. At its core, the game is all about a central expanding wild that sucks up and spits out multipliers. It's a really interesting concept, but even at medium volatility it demands some patience and a solid understanding of how the math actually works.

Rat Royale Blood Lust free spin with the expanded Rat King Wild at x10 across the middle reel holding a blue gem, rat and royal symbols on a 5x5 board
In Blood Lust the Rat King owns the whole middle reel for the round, so every win has to run through his multiplier.

Getting into the Bonus Rounds

The game features three tiers of free spins: Blood Ritual, Blood Pact, and the top-tier Blood Lust. Landing scatters gets you 10 spins, and you can retrigger for 5 more.

Pragmatic gives you a lot of options for how you want to play. If you like base-game grinding, you can use Ante Bet 1 (2.5x your stake) to quadruple your chances of a natural trigger. If you want to swing for the fences, Ante Bet 2 (5x your stake) guarantees that if you trigger a bonus, it will automatically be the top-tier Blood Lust feature.

For the bonus buyers, it costs 100x your bet for a standard trigger, or a hefty 500x to skip straight to Blood Lust. It's worth noting that using these special bets doesn't lower the game's 15,000x max win cap, which is a nice touch for high rollers.

Two ways in, and only the dearer one tells you which bonus you get: Blood Lust is guaranteed at 500x, the 100x option just says standard.

How the Rat King Multipliers Work

If you make it to Blood Lust, things get fun. An expanded Rat King wild locks onto the middle reel for the whole round. On every spin, he draws a colored gem that dictates how the multipliers behave:

  • Purple Gems: The Rat King absorbs the multipliers from any other wilds on the board, adding them to his own total for the rest of the round.
  • Green Gems: The opposite happens. The Rat King pushes his accumulated multiplier out onto the other normal wilds on the screen.
  • Blue Gems: These simply turn regular blue rat symbols into extra wilds.

When multiple wilds are part of a win, their values add together rather than multiply each other.

I bought Super Free Spins for 500x, which goes straight to Blood Lust. My Rat King started at a 10x multiplier. A purple gem sucked in a 2x wild, making the Rat King 12x. Later, a green gem pushed that 12x onto a new 2x wild, creating a 14x wild next door. A win connected through both, giving me a 26x multiplier.

This is the green gem doing its job: the Rat King's x12 got handed to the wild next door, and a win through both of them counts the two together.

The Downside: Big Multipliers, Cheap Symbols

Here is where you need to be careful. The math behind Rat Royale relies on an incredibly flat paytable. Because standard three-of-a-kind wins pay just a fraction of your stake, a 10x multiplier on a single win might only result in a payout of 1x to 5x your bet.

My 500x bonus buy returned about 84x. The multipliers on the screen are very real, but because the base symbols are so cheap, you really need big multi-way combinations to see a return on that 500x investment.

A x10 Rat King on four queens still only made 2x the bet on that line. The multiplier is big, the symbol under it is not.

Familiar Maths From the Studio

If you've played other Pragmatic games like Eastern Fury or Thunder vs Underworld 250, the "additive multiplier" math here will feel very familiar. It also shares a 5x5 grid vibe with Sunnydaze Asylum (though that relies on tumbles rather than wilds).

Rat Royale has a great dark atmosphere and an engaging multiplier mechanic that is genuinely fun to watch unfold. Just tread carefully with that 500x bonus buy, because those huge multiplier numbers can be a bit deceptive if the symbols don't line up perfectly.

Two normal wilds marked x1 on reels 2 and 4 inside one winning combination of jacks
Two wilds in one win add their multipliers instead of multiplying them, the same rule you'll know from Eastern Fury and Thunder vs Underworld 250.
