What to expect from a mines game

The basic idea behind any mines game is very simple. You click on a covered tile to reveal what is underneath. If it is safe, you win a small amount of money and can choose to cash out or keep going. If you uncover a mine, you lose your bet and the round ends right there.

The main difference between the games on this page is the math behind them. Hacksaw Gaming has a very clean version simply called Mines. It lets you change the grid size, pays back 98% on average, and has a top prize of 10,000 times your bet. Pragmatic Play offers Mines+, which advertises a massive top prize of over five million times your bet on a standard 5x5 grid. Just keep in mind that you would need to clear almost the entire board without hitting a single mine to actually win that much.

You will also see a couple of games from Riddec Games. Hamsterpunk Mines plays exactly like the standard version but adds a quirky visual theme and has a slightly lower return rate of 95%. Their other game is called Treasure Map. It shrinks the board to a smaller 3x3 grid and tries to make it feel like an adventure. It sounds like a fun idea, but it also has a 95% return rate and just does not play quite as well as the classic versions.

Finally, there is Boxes by Hacksaw Gaming. We include it here, but it works a bit differently than a normal minesweeper game. You just pick boxes to reveal prizes. It has a high 98% return rate but a much lower top prize of 549 times your bet. This makes it a gentler choice if you like the clicking and revealing style but do not want the harsh risk of losing everything to a single hidden mine.
