Busy Bees launched in August 2015, making it one of the oldest games still running in Pragmatic Play's catalog. It predates tumble mechanics, buy features, ante bets, and the entire modern slot design philosophy the studio became known for. What it offers instead is a snapshot of early Pragmatic Play: 20 fixed paylines, cartoon graphics, a gamble feature, and an interactive bonus game that newer titles completely abandoned.
The 5x3 grid hosts a cast of cartoon bees - a chef, a painter, a guitar player, and a fairy. The wild crown symbol tops the paytable at 5,000/2,000/200/20 coins for five through two of a kind. Chef bee follows at 1,000/200/30 for five through three. Four mid-range symbols pay between 200 and 400 for five. Five low symbols (flowers, leaves, honey jars) round it out at 100 coins for five.
Three or more scatter symbols (the Honey Maker) trigger 12 free spins. The scatter count also sets a multiplier that applies to your total free spins winnings at the end of the round. Three scatters multiply the total by 3x. Four scatters by 5x. Five scatters by 10x. That 10x multiplier on the entire round's accumulated wins is where the biggest potential payouts sit.
A key difference from modern free spin designs: the multiplier applies to the total, not per spin. So a mediocre round with a 10x multiplier at the end can outperform a strong round with only 3x.
Land three Wild Flower symbols on any active payline and the interactive bonus round triggers. You collect pollen, turn it into honey, and deliver it to the queen. The bonus awards up to 2,400 points. This kind of multi-step interactive bonus game disappeared from Pragmatic Play's design language years ago - modern PP slots rely on tumbles, respins, and multiplier stacking instead.
Every win offers a red/black card gamble. Guess correctly and your payout doubles. Guess wrong and you lose everything. Maximum five consecutive gambles with a 500x bet cap. It's a relic of early online slot design that most studios (Pragmatic Play included) phased out of newer releases.
The 95.29% RTP sits below the industry average and well below Pragmatic Play's current standard (most new PP games target 96%+). Medium volatility means more frequent but smaller wins compared to the high-volatility titles that dominate the studio's current lineup. There's no buy feature, no scatter nudge, no progressive multiplier system.
Busy Bees has charm. The interactive bonus game and the gamble feature give it personality that assembly-line modern slots often lack. But the math is outdated, the graphics are a decade old, and the feature set can't compete with games designed in the 2020s. It's a curiosity piece, best treated as one.
