by Pragmatic PlayReleased Sep 17, 2026

Pragmatic Play swaps the 7x7 grid for a 43-stone ritual circle laid out 1-4-7-6-7-6-7-4-1. Clusters pay and respin in place, every stone carries an upgrade level worth up to 50x on its own, and all four witch modifiers land in one cell dead centre. Medium volatility, 5,000x ceiling.

Coven Rising Slot Overview

Four witches kneel around a stone ritual disc in a night forest, and every spin happens inside that circle. The board is 43 gem-cut runestones arranged 1-4-7-6-7-6-7-4-1 across nine columns, so it reads as a summoning ring rather than a grid.

Matching stones pay in clusters of five or more, connected in any direction including diagonals. Each stone also carries a level from 1 to 5 that decides what it is worth. And one cell, dead centre, is where the coven actually does anything: all four witch modifiers land there and nowhere else.

The maths is the surprise. Medium volatility, a 5,000x ceiling, 96.42% base RTP. Pragmatic Play's last dozen cluster games all sat at the top end of the volatility scale with far bigger max wins, so the shape is the experiment here and the numbers stayed cautious. It goes live on 17 September 2026.

Theme & Design

A Latin incantation is carved around the rim of the disc, NOS SUMUS MALEFICI ... UNUM SUMUS, and it turns slowly past as the stones settle. Four hooded figures kneel at the compass points in orange, green, red and blue, wands raised, threads of pale lightning arcing off the tips into the stone. The symbols are cut gems with a rune burning inside them. Dead cells are bundles of crossed sticks, which is smart: you can see at a glance how much of the board is doing nothing.

Pragmatic Play painted this one instead of cartooning it. The logo hangs off a branch with a red-eyed crow perched beside it and a small skull underneath, and the level upgrades are visible on the stones themselves, bare rock at level 1, then a metal setting, then a diamond inlay, then a full gold filigree crest at level 5.

Free spins throw the palette out. The forest floor becomes scorched red earth cut with burning sigils, the hoods come down so the four faces are finally visible, and a gold coin hovers over the middle of the disc counting up. One gripe, and it is not small: the base game is muddy. Grey and purple stones on wet grey rock, and a busy board takes work to read.

Features & How They Work

Clusters That Refill In Place

Symbols pay in clusters of five or more connected horizontally, vertically or diagonally, and on a circular board that means clusters bend into shapes a rectangle never produces. When one pays, those exact cells respin and reveal new symbols. Nothing drops, nothing shifts down, the rest of the board holds perfectly still. If the refill makes another cluster it pays and respins again, and the chain runs until a refill comes up empty.

Symbol Levels

Every instance of a symbol carries a level from 1 to 5, and a cluster pays that level's per-symbol value multiplied by how many symbols are in it. Nine red stones at level 3 pay 9 x 4x, so 36x, not a fixed table figure. The spread is steep. Red runs 0.5x at level 1 and 50x at level 5; the white stone at the bottom of the table goes 0.05x to 5x. Levels climb through spins, respins and the Red Witch, and in normal play they last only for the current result and its respins.

The Middle Cell And The Four Witches

Four modifier symbols land at random, and only ever in the centre position. Green collects every coin on the board and pays the lot, then those cells respin into paying symbols; the upgraded version first drops between 1 and 5 extra coins onto positions currently blocked by blanks, then collects. Red raises one paying symbol a level, or upgraded, raises all of them. Yellow converts up to 5 blanks into paying symbols, or upgraded, every blank there is. Blue turns the centre wild and, upgraded, scatters two more wilds around the board.

The re-roll rule is what makes the cell interesting. Whenever winning symbols respin, the centre respins with them and can come back as a different witch. So one decent cluster can chain three or four modifiers before the board finally settles.

Free Spins

Three, four, five or six scatters award 12, 16, 20 or 24 free spins, and two or more landing during the round add two spins each. Special reels come into play, so the witches turn up considerably more often. Two rules also flip. Red Witch level increases stop expiring and hold for the whole round, so a board that opens with everything at level 1 can be sitting on level 3 and 4 stones by the end of it. And the Green Witch stops simply paying and clearing: after collecting, the total gathers onto whichever coin held the highest value, and that coin parks itself in place until it gets collected, a bigger one lands, or the round runs out. A gathered coin sitting at 323x with two spins left is this feature at its best.

Buys And The Ante Bet

Free spins can be bought outright for 100x the bet, or 200x for Super Free Spins, where blanks are barred from the middle cell so the centre produces a witch far more often. The Ante Bet is a different animal, a stake mode at 60x instead of 20x, tripling what a spin costs in exchange for seven times the trigger rate. Read the small print on that one. Because the cap is a fixed cash amount, ante play tops out at 1,667x instead of 5,000x, which stings for a mode you are already paying triple to use.

The RTP arrangement is worth a look, because it runs backwards from the usual. Standard play returns 96.42%, the 100x buy 96.48%, the 200x buy 96.49% and ante 96.50%. Pragmatic Play normally shaves a chunk off the buy. Here every paid mode returns slightly more than plain spins.

How Coven Rising Plays

The rhythm is small and steady. Something pays roughly one spin in three, most of it loose change, and the balance drifts instead of lurching. On a 43-cell board with blanks scattered through it, plenty of spins look busy and amount to nothing at all.

Where the eye goes is the centre. Once it clicks that every modifier in the game comes out of that one cell, the whole board reorganises around it and a spin becomes a single question: did the middle go green? That is a decent piece of design, honestly, because it gives a cluster game a focal point instead of the usual scan-the-whole-grid squint.

The base game asks for patience it does not always repay. Long runs of tiny clusters, blanks sitting on the positions you want, and rounds that end right as the board was getting somewhere. The bonus is where it stops being fiddly and starts making sense, which is also why the 100x buy will probably look like the fair price of admission to a lot of players. Give it two sessions and the arithmetic clicks. Before that, wins land and you will not always know why.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • A 43-position circle instead of another 7x7 rectangle, and the shape changes what a winning cluster can look like
  • Free spins change two rules rather than just handing over extra spins
  • Every paid mode returns slightly more than base play, which is the opposite of this studio's usual pattern
  • Painted, serious artwork that looks nothing like the rest of Pragmatic Play's cluster range

Cons

  • 5,000x is a modest ceiling for a cluster release in 2026
  • Blanks clutter the board, and the level system takes a couple of sessions before wins make sense
  • Ante Bet triples the stake and cuts the maximum win to 1,667x

Is Coven Rising Worth Playing?

7/10

The circle is not decoration. Nine columns of uneven height change what a cluster can be, and the single modifier cell gives the game a centre of gravity most cluster slots lack. After two years of candy and fruit on 7x7 grids, this is the art department off the leash, and for my money it is the best-looking thing the studio has shipped in a while.

Whether the experiment pays off is the harder question. The maths stays cautious, and the level system, clever as it is, mostly produces a stream of small wins that take effort to parse. The board is the most interesting thing about the game, which is not the same as saying the game is exciting.

Load it for the circle and the bonus round. Just do not go in expecting the ceiling to move.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the maximum win on Coven Rising?

5,000x the bet, and the round ends the moment a win reaches it. With the Ante Bet active the cap drops to 1,667x, because the limit is a fixed cash figure and the ante stake is three times higher.

How do you trigger the free spins in Coven Rising?

Land 3, 4, 5 or 6 scatters for 12, 16, 20 or 24 free spins. Two or more scatters during the round retrigger it for two extra spins each.

What is the RTP of Coven Rising?

96.42% for standard play. Ante runs 96.50%, the 100x buy 96.48% and the 200x super buy 96.49%. Some operators run the game at a lower setting than that, so it is worth checking the rules panel at whichever casino you play it.

Can you buy the bonus in Coven Rising?

Yes, and there are two prices. 100x the bet buys standard free spins, 200x buys Super Free Spins, where blanks cannot land in the middle cell. Ante Bet and super spins are both switched off while a bought round is running.

Is Coven Rising suitable for players under 18?

No. Slots are restricted to adults of legal gambling age in their jurisdiction. Demo play risks no money, but the game is a gambling product and real-money play should be kept to limits you set in advance.
