If you've ever played Pragmatic Play's Sugar Rush, you already know exactly how to play PoggiPlay's new August 2026 release, Aztec Totem. It shares Sugar Rush's 7x7 grid and its cell multipliers, sets them in a jungle temple, and adds a very pricey Super Bonus Game to the buy menu.
The real question is whether it's worth your bankroll.

How the Multipliers Work
The base game is pretty standard. You need three scatters to trigger 10 free spins, or you can just buy the regular bonus for 100x your bet.
The whole game revolves around spot multipliers. When you get a winning cluster, it highlights the grid spaces underneath. If you get a second win on those same spaces, they turn into x2 multipliers. From there, every subsequent win on that spot doubles the multiplier up to a max of x128. In the base game, these reset every spin. But in the free spins, they stick around and keep growing until the round ends (or until you hit the game's 5,000x max win cap).
PoggiPlay did add one cool little twist to the formula: the Totem symbol. During the bonus, if a winning cluster touches a Totem, it doubles that cluster's multipliers and then disappears. It's a nice touch that adds some extra potential, even if it can be a little hard to keep track of what exactly is being doubled in the middle of a fast-moving cascade.

Buying the 500x Super Bonus
Here's where things get risky. There's a second option on the buy menu: a "Super Bonus" for a hefty 500x your bet. It gives you the same 10 free spins, but every single spot on the board starts at x2.

I bought one. My first two free spins were completely dead, which is always a painful feeling when you've just paid a premium price. Because the multipliers only grow when you hit them, it's the late clusters that land on the big numbers. By my final spin, I had built up some decent x4, x8, and x16 blocks, and two small clusters hit for about 48x.

I ended up walking away with 215x my bet. So, I lost more than half my buy-in. It shows that the potential is definitely there if you get a lucky early cascade, but it's a highly volatile gamble.
How It Compares to the Competition
So, how close is it to Sugar Rush? Very close. Aztec Totem shares its 7x7 board, its x128 cell ladder and its 5,000x cap, and the Totem is the main thing it adds.
The issue I have is with the math. A 500x buy is something we've seen in games like Sugar Rush 1000 and Microgaming's Whale Rush. However, those games let the multipliers climb to x1024 and have much bigger max wins (25,000x and 10,000x respectively). Aztec Totem asks you to pay 500x for a head start, but still caps your top prize at 5,000x, all while offering a slightly lower RTP of 95.96%.
Aztec Totem is a solid, familiar game with a great-looking jungle theme. If you love the multiplier-building mechanic and want it in a different setting, it's definitely worth a few spins. Just be incredibly careful with that Super Bonus Game button: the math makes it a very tough hill to climb.
