Hacksaw Gaming is back with another entry in their expanding "Le" series, this time dressing up a raccoon in Irish luck gear for Le Darkchaun. If you've played Le King, you'll feel right at home here. It runs the same Golden Squares loop on the same 6x5 board and relies heavily on a "collect" mechanic, where you build up value on the board and hold your breath waiting for a specific symbol to cash it all in.

Le Darkchaun 6x5 grid during Clover the Top free spins, a Rainbow turning lit Golden Squares into bronze and silver coins
This is the whole game in one frame: the squares your clusters lit sit there doing nothing until a Rainbow lands and flips them into coins.

How the Gameplay Actually Feels

The core of the game revolves around "Golden Squares." When you land winning clusters, those grid spots light up. If a Wild is part of the win, it leaves a nice 2x multiplier behind on that cell. But these lit squares don't pay out anything on their own. You have to wait for a Rainbow symbol to land on that same spin to activate them. When the Rainbow hits, the squares reveal coins worth up to 500x your bet, clovers that multiply them, or pots of gold that sweep the whole board.

Landing 3, 4, or 5 scatters triggers the different bonus tiers, which basically dictate how long your Golden Squares stay lit:

  • Arc Adventure (3 Scatters / 60x Buy): Lit squares stick around until a Rainbow cashes them out, and multipliers stay for the whole round.
  • Clover the Top (4 Scatters / 250x Buy): This is where things get fun. The squares stay lit even after a Rainbow activates them, meaning future Rainbows can keep cashing in on the same spots.
  • Shamrock 'n' Roll (5 Scatters): The dream scenario. It guarantees a Rainbow on every single spin, but you can't buy it: you have to trigger it naturally.

In Arc Adventure the Wild's x2 mark stays put for the round, so a coin that lands on it later gets doubled. The Lucky Charm Bar up top fills with every scatter.

Both of the lower-tier bonuses feature a Lucky Charm Bar that can award extra spins and multipliers if you collect enough scatters. However, in my playthrough, I found it pretty tough to level up; my bonus rounds rarely landed more than a single extra scatter.

Le Darkchaun bonus buy menu listing Arc Adventure, Clover the Top and three FeatureSpins options with their prices
Two bonuses for sale at 60x and 250x, plus three standing bets from 3x to 500x a spin. Shamrock 'n' Roll isn't on the menu at any price.

My personal results were a mixed bag. I bought the expensive Clover the Top feature and hit a cold streak, landing a few Rainbows but missing the multipliers, making back only about a sixth of the 250x cost. The cheaper Arc Adventure buy actually treated me a bit better, recouping over half its cost thanks to some well-placed Wild multipliers. There's also a 75x "RainbowRide" special bet that guarantees a Rainbow on every spin, so the only question is how much of the board you've lit by the time it lands. It's definitely a game of peaks and valleys.

How it Compares to the Rest of the Series

Mechanically, Le Darkchaun is basically a step sideways for Hacksaw. It borrows the Golden Squares engine straight from Le King (though it drops the fixed jackpots) and shares a lot of DNA with Le Panda Town and Le Outlaw. The multiplying squares might also remind you a bit of Pragmatic Play's Sugar Rush, though here they multiply both the cluster wins and the coins revealed on top of them.

Where this game actually stands out from its siblings is the math. The 15,000x max win is solid, sitting right in the middle of the "Le" family, but the RTP (Return to Player) is surprisingly generous. At 97.52%, it's noticeably higher than Le King (96.14%) or Le Vampire (96.36%).

Le Darkchaun gives you the same familiar Hacksaw loop: building up a board and praying for that one symbol to drop and cash it all in. If you don't like waiting for collect symbols, this might not be for you. But if you're a fan of the series, the lack of jackpots is easily made up for by the highly impressive 97.52% RTP, making it a very fair and entertaining option to spin.
