Playtech's Lion Mania came out in May 2026, and it's a pretty straightforward 3x3 slot with a classic Chinese luck theme. It's not trying to reinvent the wheel, relying heavily on a single hold-and-win feature where you really need a full screen to see any serious action.

How the Respins Work (and the Multiplier Rule)
The main draw here is the Lion Mania Respins. You can wait for it to trigger randomly in the base game, or you can buy right into it for a very reasonable 60x your bet. Once you're in, the game picks one paying symbol, clears the board, and only drops that symbol, wilds, or blanks. It's a classic sticky respin setup: land a symbol, and you earn another respin.

A natural round pays x10 on a full screen. Buy it, and the game draws a random multiplier between x15 and x50 instead, shown over the reels from the start. Either way it only counts if all nine spots fill.

I bought the bonus and rolled a nice 25x multiplier with the jade lion symbol. It started strong: five symbols locked in right away, and my first respin grabbed two more. But then the board went totally cold, and the round ended with 7 out of 9 cells filled. Because I missed the full screen, that 25x multiplier just vanished, and the standard payouts gave me back about a tenth of my buy-in. I get that it's the rule of the game, but having that big multiplier dangling in your face when you don't actually get it can be a little frustrating!
A Familiar Face in the "Mania" Lineup
If you play a lot of Playtech slots, Lion Mania is going to feel very familiar. It shares a lot with their other 3x3 "Mania" games. The RTP (96.63%) matches Piggy Mania exactly. The 5,000x max win is the same as Monkey Mania 2's, but here only a bought round can reach it: in natural play the cap is 2,500x, the figure on the game's own ticker.
Its closest match is Onca Mania. They share the same grid and that exact same "full-screen-only" multiplier rule. The trade-off is that Lion Mania has no wild locked on the middle reel the way Onca does, but its bonus buy costs 60x instead of 100x, which I actually think is a fair compromise. (Popok Gaming's King Lemur 500 runs a very similar respin round, one picked symbol on a cleared board and a multiplier that needs a full screen, with a much higher 20,000x max win.)

Same 60x, Very Different Prizes
One big thing to keep in mind: because the bonus buy is a flat 60x but the game picks your symbol at random, your payout potential varies wildly. A full screen of low-paying plum blossoms with a multiplier pays out drastically less than a screen full of Buddhas with the exact same multiplier. You're paying the same entry fee for very different baseline potentials.
All told, Lion Mania is a decent, fast-paced slot if you like the 3x3 format and appreciate a cheaper bonus buy. Just brace yourself for the "all-or-nothing" nature of that multiplier!
