Hacksaw Gaming is adding a wintery spin to their fishing lineup with Marlin Masters: Frozen Frenzy (coming out Nov 17, 2026). Since it's the fifth game in the series, I was curious to see what they'd change up. It turns out, Hacksaw has actually scaled things back a bit this time around, going for a smaller grid and a lower max win, but keeping the familiar collector mechanics we all know.

How the Bonuses Work
The bonus rounds are broken into three tiers depending on how many scatters you land:
- 3 Scatters (Stone Cold): Gives you 8 free spins and a 5x minimum value on the frozen Ice Marlins above the reels.
- 4 Scatters (Ice Breakers): Gives you 10 spins, a 10x floor on the Ice Marlins, and makes them sticky for the rest of the round once an Ice Fisherman breaks them out.
- 5 Scatters (Catch and Relax): This is the holy grail. It guarantees a Fisherman and a Marlin on every single spin.
During the free spins, there's an "Ice Bar" meter above the reels. What I actually really like about this is that any Fisherman that lands moves the meter forward one step, even if there are no fish on the screen to catch. Every fourth step gives you 5 extra spins and bumps the minimum multiplier to 2x, 3x, and eventually 5x. One downside, though: scatters are removed from the reels during the bonus, so you can't retrigger the traditional way.

My Experience with the Bonus Buys
I bought both bonuses to see how the features actually play out. I bought the 200x "Ice Breakers" feature, but unfortunately, it was a bit of a dud for me. The sticky Ice Marlins it's priced around never really got going because I couldn't land the specific Ice Fisherman needed to activate them. I ended up getting back about a fifth of my buy-in.
I also tried the cheaper 60x "Stone Cold" buy, which paid out less than half its cost. Ironically, most of that came from a standard line hit of Marlins rather than the collection mechanic. A bonus can be pretty unforgiving when the collectors don't show up, so keep that in mind.

A Slightly Scaled-Back Sequel
Looking at the bigger picture, Frozen Frenzy aims a little lower than the rest of the Marlin Masters series. The max win is capped at 5,000x (down from 7,500x in the original and 10,000x in The Big Haul), and it goes back to a smaller 3-row layout. However, it does boast the highest RTP of the series at 96.37%, which is a really fair trade-off for the lower max win.
Mechanically, it's impossible not to compare it to games like Pragmatic's Big Bass Splash or Thunderkick's Bass Hunter. The meter-collection system is very similar, though Frozen Frenzy has the edge over Big Bass Splash of letting you collect fish in the base game too. The Ice Bar's multiplier steps aren't quite as big as Pragmatic's, but it plays well enough.

One Weird Quirk
My only real head-scratcher with this game is the premium standing bets. You can pay 50x for a guaranteed standard Fisherman, or 75x for a guaranteed Ice Fisherman on every spin. The problem? Doing so removes scatters from the reels entirely. It feels like a really strange design choice to pay a premium price for spins that completely lock you out of hitting the actual bonus round the game is built around.
Frozen Frenzy is a solid, if slightly cautious, addition to the series. If you like the fishing genre but want a slightly higher RTP and don't mind a lower max win, it's definitely worth a few spins. Just be careful with those expensive feature buys!
