Hacksaw Gaming's Supernova Shooting Stars drops on November 5, 2026, mixing classic fruit machine vibes with a cosmic theme. If the gameplay sounds familiar, you aren't crazy: it shares a wild that only expands on a win, and multipliers that add up, with Coffee Dealer, which the studio has due on 22 October, though the maths underneath are different.

Supernova Shooting Stars base game on a 5x3 grid of fruit and card symbols, with a purple Star on reel 1 that spread down over a Wild and turned it into a 2x multiplier
This is the whole idea in one corner of the board: the purple Star only drops down because the line under it pays, and the Wild it lands on turns into a multiplier.

The Mechanics: Conditional Stars and Multipliers

The whole game revolves around expanding wilds, with a condition attached. You've got purple Stars (which expand downward to the bottom of the reel) and gold Epic Stars (which cover the entire reel). However, they only expand if doing so actually creates a winning combo. If they don't connect with anything, they just sit there as a single, regular wild. It can be a little frustrating to land a Star on the bottom row where it has no room to expand anyway, but it does make the moments when they do connect feel earned.

The real fun starts when an expanding star drops over a plain Wild that's already on the board. That covered Wild turns into a multiplier worth up to 250x. One thing to keep in mind: if you get multiple multipliers on the same payline, they add together rather than multiply. So, a 10x and a 4x will give you a 14x boost, not a 40x boost. It keeps the game grounded, but you can still hit some really nice payouts.

The Epic Stars fill their reels top to bottom, and only the cells that were Wilds before the spread come out carrying a multiplier. The rest are plain stars.

Buying the Bonus Rounds

I bought both bonus rounds to see how the features hold up. There are two free spin options:

  • Rain of Light (50x your bet): Gives you eight spins and guarantees at least one Star or Epic Star per spin. In my experience, this one was pretty hit-or-miss. Because the stars need regular Wilds to create multipliers, I had a few rounds where the stars just expanded over empty fruit symbols, returning only about a third of my buy-in.
  • Starstruck (200x your bet): This gives you ten spins and guarantees an Epic Star every single time. The game seems to throw more regular Wilds onto the reels during bonuses, which helps a lot. I had one solid spin that landed 7x, 4x, and 3x multipliers on the same board, which pushed the whole feature just past the 200x break-even point.
Starstruck free spin with a Mega Win banner over a board of Epic Stars and purple Stars showing 7x, 4x and 3x multipliers
Starstruck at its best: three multipliers on one board, and because they add on a line instead of stacking, a spin like this is big without going wild.

If you prefer to just buy single spins, the FeatureSpins menu is actually pretty great. A Starlight spin costs 100x and guarantees at least two Epic Stars, and any Wild an Epic Star spreads over turns into a multiplier on the spot. It definitely shows the game's potential when the stars literally align.

So, where does this sit in Hacksaw's lineup? Mechanically, it shares its win-only expanding wild and adding multipliers with LIT City and Coffee Dealer, but its maths are smaller. It's played on a smaller 5x3 board, returns 96.26% RTP by default (casinos can also run it at 94.32%, 92.28% or 86.25%) and caps the max win at 5,000x.

Rain of Light free spin where a gold Epic Star at the bottom of reel 3 spread up the whole reel with no Wild under it
And the other side of it in Rain of Light: the Epic Star covers the reel, but with no Wild beneath it there is nothing to multiply, so the line pays its plain value.

For comparison, Coffee Dealer offers a 10,000x max win, and Pragmatic Play's Zeus vs Hades - Gods of War (which uses a very similar adding-multiplier mechanic) reaches 15,000x.

Is the lower max win a bad thing? Not necessarily. While hardcore high-rollers chasing the biggest wins might prefer those games, the 5,000x cap here suggests a slightly less swingy, more casual experience. If you like the mechanics of Coffee Dealer but want a fresh space theme and a game that feels a bit more approachable, Supernova Shooting Stars is a solid, entertaining release that's definitely worth a few spins.
