Gates of Xibalba runs the same 6x5 scatter-pay engine as Gates of Olympus - tumbling wins, multiplier symbols, 8+ matching symbols anywhere on screen. The difference is what happens during free spins. Instead of a flat multiplier pool for the entire round, Xibalba introduces a four-level progression system that raises the minimum multiplier value as you collect symbols.
Level 1 starts with multipliers ranging from 2x to 100x. Collect 6 multiplier symbols and you advance to Level 2, where the floor jumps to 8x. Five more multipliers push you to Level 3 (floor: 15x). Four more reach Level 4 - every multiplier that lands falls between 50x and 100x. The ceiling never changes. What changes is how often you see low-value multipliers. At Level 4, a 2x or 3x literally cannot appear.
The collection thresholds matter: 6, then 5, then 4. Each level requires fewer symbols than the last, which creates acceleration. Early free spins feel slow as you grind through Level 1's wide range. Late free spins at Level 3 or 4 produce consistently large multipliers on every tumble.
Most scatter-pay slots offer one buy option. Xibalba offers four, each starting you at a different level:
The 200x purchase carries the best RTP at 96.70%, compared to 96.25% for regular play. The 500x option puts you straight into max level, but at 96.32% RTP. You're paying 5x the standard buy price for a higher floor, not a higher ceiling - max win stays at 5,000x regardless of which tier you purchase.
Random scatter count still applies on the triggering spin for any purchase. You could buy Level 4 entry and still land 6 scatters for 20 free spins instead of the minimum 10.
When a tumble sequence ends, all multiplier symbols visible on the 30-position grid have their values added together. Three multipliers showing 50x, 75x, and 100x produce a 225x multiplier applied to the total tumble sequence win. This is addition - same as Gates of Olympus. Two 100x symbols give 200x, not 10,000x.
The scatter paytable follows standard Pragmatic tiers. Premium symbols pay 200 coins for 8-9 on screen, climbing to 1,000 coins for 12+. Low symbols start at 5 coins for 8-9. Four scatters trigger 10 free spins, five give 15, six give 20. During the bonus, 3+ scatters retrigger with 5 additional spins.
Xibalba is the Mayan realm of the dead, and the game commits to the theme. A blue-skinned Mayan deity with a feathered headdress stands beside the grid, which sits inside a dark stone temple with volcanic fire bowls. Jade masks, gold faces, and bird totems fill the symbol positions. Multiplier values overlay the symbols when they land - you'll see 2x, 50x, 75x, 100x scattered across the reels.
The 5,000x cap is the same ceiling that Gates of Olympus carries, but Olympus doesn't gate its multiplier range behind a progression system. Whether the level mechanic actually helps depends on how deep into free spins you get. Stall at Level 1 with 10 spins and you're playing a worse version of GoO (same ceiling, same multiplier range, no advantage). Reach Level 4 and every spin carries serious weight. The ante bet costs 25% extra and doubles scatter frequency, but drops max win to 4,000x and disables the buy feature.
