Pragmatic Play went for Valentine's Day here, not thunder and marble. Venus stands beside a pink 6x5 grid of gems, golden apples and roses, and the game running underneath all that soft focus is a pay-anywhere tumbler built around multipliers that stick to the grid and grow.

Eight or more matching symbols anywhere across the 30 positions pay, the winners burst, new ones drop into the holes. Sitting under those symbols are Multiplier Spots running from x2 to x1024, and each time a win lands on one it climbs higher. There is no wild in this game at all. Nine paying symbols, one scatter, and that is the entire cast - unusual for a Pragmatic release, and it takes a while to notice what is missing.

She just stands there looking pleased with herself, which suits a game this soft-focus.

No card royals anywhere. The premiums are a golden apple with a single green leaf, a pearl in a pink scallop shell, a Roman helmet with a red plume wound in roses, and a gold lyre trimmed with laurel. Below them sit five faceted gems in red, blue, white, purple and green, the same gem set Pragmatic has been recycling for years and easily the weakest art in the game. The romance reading wins over the mythology: the helmet, the lyre and the apple of Paris are furniture, not story.

Free spins change the whole picture. The sky darkens to magenta, the grid drops into a bed of pink roses, a row of ten gold hearts unrolls above the reels as the Boost ladder and a three-heart collect meter appears down the left side. It reads clearly, which matters a lot when numbers are stacked under every position on the grid.

Wins arrive constantly. Roughly one spin in three and a half lands something, and most of those are a fraction of the stake coming back, so the balance drifts down in small steady steps rather than dropping off a cliff. Medium volatility working exactly as labelled. It makes the game easy to sit with for a long stretch.

Base play never builds, though, and that is the honest weakness. Multipliers appear, a tumble chews through them, and they are wiped before the next spin can use them. Nothing accumulates. The game switches on in the bonus, which turns up on its own about once every 440 spins - a long wait for something that starts at six spins. Most sessions end up at the buy menu.

Inside the round is where it wins or loses. Land nothing for three spins and it finishes before the ladder ever moves. Land scatters early and the whole thing stretches while the numbers under the symbols swell, and the collect meter starts doing the work the base game never gets to do. That gap between a dead round and a live one is wider than the medium label probably prepares anyone for.

Pragmatic has recombined parts it already owns: scatter pays, tumbles, sticky multiplier spots, a buy menu, an ante. Nobody is going to mistake this for a new idea. What saves it is the placement. Multipliers landing anywhere instead of on fixed squares makes the base game less predictable than it has any right to be, and the free spins round escalates properly once the collect meter cooperates.

The reservations stack up all the same. Three payout bands is thin, the starting round is short, and the Super Spins are priced like a headline act while behaving like a sideshow. For my money the 250x random buy with the heart gamble is the liveliest thing in here, and it is also the one that can wipe out the entire round in a single click. That tension is the game at its best.
