A classic fruit machine wearing a Christmas jumper, built around one gold star that does all the work. Fazi took Hot Stars, buried it in snow, hung candy canes off the reel frame and left the maths alone. Five reels, three rows, ten lines, and a symbol set of bells, plums, oranges, lemons and cherries that pays politely and not much more.

The star is the reason to load it. Land one on reel 2, 3 or 4 and the entire reel turns wild, locks in place and hands over a respin. Another star landing during that respin expands and locks too, buying a further one. Get a chain going and the middle of the board goes solid wild, which on a 5x3 grid catches nearly every line at once.

There is no scatter, no free spins round and nothing to buy. RTP is 95.54%, low even by classic-slot standards, and the three mystery jackpots ticking away under the reels are funded on top of that.

The reels sit under a dark blue night sky with snow drifting past and a ridge of snow piled along the top of the frame. Frosted pine branches and cones lean in from both sides, and red-and-white candy canes hook over the corners of the reel set. Inside, though, nothing has changed: near-black reel panels edged in blue neon, a pink-to-orange gradient bleeding down the dividers, and the same fruit as ever. A fat orange with a cut half in front of it, a purple plum still on its leafed stem, twin cherries, a lemon, a brass bell and a gold BAR ingot. The star wild is exactly what the name promises, a five-point gold star with an orange rim.

It is a picture frame rather than a redesign, and Fazi has never pretended otherwise with these seasonal editions. The Christmas dressing stops at the border, the arcade-bright neon inside clashes cheerfully with the winter scene, and the 'Hot Stars' logo in its blue arch at the top was not even repainted. Clean artwork, low ambition.

It plays fast and flat. Small fruit lines land often enough to keep the balance drifting sideways, and for long stretches the only thing moving is the jackpot meter climbing a cent at a time. Then a star drops, the reel lights up, and the respin gives a few seconds of hope.

Which is often where it ends. One wild reel through the middle still needs reels 1 and 5 to cooperate, and they frequently do not, so plenty of respins pay back less than the build-up deserved. Chains are the point and they are rare, so most sessions never see two stars lock together. Medium-high volatility on a game with no bonus round means the swings all come from a feature that fires on its own schedule and gives nothing in between, which can feel thin fifty spins in. For my money the gamble button ends up being the most entertaining thing on the layout, and that says plenty.

A seasonal repaint of a game that already worked, and the part that made it work came through intact. A wild that eats a whole reel and then buys itself respins is a proper mechanic rather than decoration, and on a ten-line classic board it hits hard when it chains. The trouble is everything around it. The return is poor, the fruit pays are forgettable, and with no scatter there is nothing to look forward to between stars.

The jackpots are the honest draw, and Fazi knows it (they are why these classics stay in operator lobbies long after the art stops being seasonal). Load it for the star, treat the Diamond meter as the actual prize, and keep the sessions short.
