Lucha Heroes Slot Review

by Amigo GamingReleased Aug 20, 2026

Two cartoon luchadores fight on a meter above a 5x3 board, and whoever is winning decides which hold-and-win round you get: Murcielago's collectors that harvest coin values over and over, or Sr. Tequila's payers that inflate every coin at once. Filling all 15 positions pays a fixed 1,000x.

Lucha Heroes Slot Overview

Two cartoon luchadores brawl on a bar above the reels, and the one in front decides which bonus round the game hands over. That is the idea holding Lucha Heroes together, and it is a better one than the plain 5x3, 25-line frame around it would suggest.

Amigo Gaming keeps the reels themselves simple. Fixed lines pay left to right from reel one, the wild turns up on reels 2 through 5 but never the first, and the Bonus Time scatter is restricted to reels 1, 3 and 5. What actually moves is the duel bar. Purple TOKEN symbols feed Murciélago, red ones feed Sr. Tequila, and because their two Pin Win rounds work differently, it matters which of them is ahead.

The bar is not a progress meter, whatever it looks like. Collecting more tokens does not bring a bonus closer; it settles who throws the punch when one lands.

Theme & Design

Bright, loud and squarely Mexican. A packed arena with ropes strung across the foreground, a purple and orange crowd haze behind, and the board sitting in a magenta frame with the two fighters squaring off on the rail above it. Murciélago is a squat, bat-eared bruiser in a purple and gold horned mask. Sr. Tequila wears a green mask under a red-trimmed sombrero, a red cape, and carries a bottle he never once puts down. The referee is a woman with a headset mic and a brown quiff, and she is the best-drawn thing here.

Below the picture symbols it gets cheap fast: card letters with halftone dots in orange, red, pink, blue and green, which read quickly at speed but are exactly what you expect. The rounds are at least colour-coded. Free games drop the arena into a cold blue wash, and the Pin Win board goes deep purple with green cash bundles and a row of hearts down the side. Even the buy control is in on the joke, a red boxing glove hanging off the left of the reels.

Features & How They Work

The Duel

TOKEN symbols land over other symbols in the base game and in free games, in one fighter's colour or the other. When a token flies off to the man who attracted it, the symbol beneath is revealed and still completes lines, so a token landing never costs you a cell. Each one pulled in shifts the bar in that fighter's favour.

What the bar does not do is the part worth knowing. The number of tokens collected has no effect on how often a bonus fires, and only one bonus runs at a time. A fighter with the upper hand triggers his own Pin Win at random. The meter picks the prize, not the timing.

Free Games

Three Bonus Time scatters award 24 free games, and it is always 24, because reels 1, 3 and 5 are the only ones that carry a scatter and three is therefore the ceiling. The scatter also pays 2x the total bet by itself. Free games run at the triggering stake, on the same board and the same paytable, and they retrigger.

The ending is what makes them worth having. Whichever fighter holds the upper hand when the last spin resolves is guaranteed to trigger his Pin Win round, and a Pin Win can fire on its own partway through as well.

Pin Win

The reels clear and become 15 hold-and-respin positions holding cash symbols, each showing a prize between x1 and x300 the total bet. Three attempts are drawn as hearts beside the grid. Every spin burns one, any new special symbol resets the count back to three, and the round stops when the hearts run out or the board fills. Then everything on the grid is added up and paid in one go.

Cover all 15 positions and the game pays a flat 1,000x the bet as an ULTRA JACKPOT. Fixed, despite the name. Nothing accumulates and nothing is shared, and a counter above the grid keeps reminding you how many positions you still need.

Two Fighters, Two Different Rounds

Murciélago's version runs on COLLECT symbols. Each newly landed one gathers the value of every cash symbol already on the grid, and it does not consume them: the coins stay at face value and a later COLLECT can harvest the same ones again. Sr. Tequila's version uses PAYER symbols instead, which add their own value, x1 up to x10, to every cash symbol on the board, and which keep their reel spinning rather than locking.

Same 15 positions, same jackpot, different shape entirely. One round compounds by repetition, the other inflates everything at once. Working out which you would rather be handed is most of what the duel bar is for.

Bonus Buy

One price, no menu: 109x the total bet buys the free games. It plays a base-game spin on the way in, the one that lands the three scatters, so a line win can pay before the round even starts. Against 96.03% in normal play the bought version returns 95.24%, roughly three quarters of a percentage point worse. Neither Pin Win round can be bought at any price.

How Lucha Heroes Plays

Wins land about once every five spins, which sounds generous until you see what most of them are. Card letters, paying back a slice of the stake. The base game is quiet work, and the only thing with any momentum in it is the bar overhead, which does not bring a bonus any closer. Long stretches pass with nothing to follow but a slow tug of war between two cartoon men.

When something does fire, the pace changes completely. The reels cap out at 40x for five logos, so every figure worth talking about comes out of a Pin Win round, and those have a stop-start rhythm the rest of the game never manages: a dud spin, a heart gone, then a special symbol drops and you are back to full. That counter ticking down the positions you still need for the ULTRA is a nice piece of cruelty.

Free games play as a countdown rather than a hope. Twenty-four spins is a long sit on a 5x3 board, and with a Pin Win waiting at the end no matter what happens, the middle of the round can feel like a formality you are waiting out. The guarantee is probably still the right call, since it means the feature always finishes on something rather than trailing off.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • The two Pin Win rounds behave differently, so the duel decides something real rather than picking a colour
  • Free games always end on a guaranteed Pin Win, which stops the round fizzling out
  • Tokens cover a symbol instead of replacing it, so they never kill a paying line
  • Bright, fast and easy to read, with each round colour-coded so you always know where you are

Cons

  • The buy is worse value than normal play, 95.24% against 96.03%, at a fixed 109x
  • The duel bar looks exactly like a fill-to-trigger meter and the game never makes clear that it is not
  • Very little happens between features, and the low symbols are plain card letters
  • Only four picture symbols, two of which pay identically

Is Lucha Heroes Worth Playing?

6/10

Amigo Gaming turns out this exact shape on a schedule: 5x3, 25 lines, roughly 96%, medium-high volatility, a four-figure ceiling. Lucha Heroes is that game with one good idea bolted on, and the idea carries it further than it should. A fight playing out over the reels, deciding which of two differently built hold-and-win rounds you get, gives a thin base game something to watch, and the studio was right to lead its own copy on it.

It is not a big-win slot and never claims to be. The 1,800x ceiling wants a filled Pin Win grid for the 1,000x jackpot plus a good deal stacked on top, which is a lot to ask of 15 positions and three hearts. And with the buy priced above what it returns, there is no shortcut worth taking either. What is left is a cheerful, medium-weight slot that knows its own size, carrying a meter above the reels that will keep confusing people for as long as the game is live.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the maximum win in Lucha Heroes?

1,800x your bet. The biggest single award the game pays is the 1,000x ULTRA JACKPOT for covering all 15 Pin Win positions, so the ceiling means filling that grid and adding a lot more on top of it.

How do you trigger the free games?

Land three Bonus Time scatters, which only appear on reels 1, 3 and 5. That awards 24 free games every time, since three is the most that can land. They retrigger, and the round closes with a guaranteed Pin Win from whichever fighter is leading.

What is the RTP, and is the bonus buy worth taking?

96.03% in normal play. The buy is a single fixed option at 109x the bet and returns 95.24%, so it costs about three quarters of a percentage point. Spinning normally is the better rate.

Is the ULTRA JACKPOT a progressive?

No. It is a fixed 1,000x the total bet for covering all 15 positions in a Pin Win round. It does not build up over time and it is not pooled between players or casinos.

Can you try Lucha Heroes for free, and what age do you need to be?

The demo runs on play money with no account and no deposit, bonus buy included, so the whole game is testable at no cost. Real-money play is 18+ only, 21+ in some jurisdictions, and it should stay entertainment rather than a way to earn.
