Marlin Masters: The Big Haul is the second game in Hacksaw's fishing franchise and a direct upgrade to the original Marlin Masters. Same 5x4 grid, same 14 paylines, but the win cap jumps from 7,500x to 10,000x, and three new mechanics layer on top of the established formula. If the Big Bass Bonanza series owns the fishing slot space at Pragmatic Play, this is Hacksaw building their own dock.
The setting is tropical - turquoise water, volcanic island in the distance, Big Bob and his boat Bettsy the Beaut. Bamboo fishing rod holders frame the grid. Bright, clean cartoon style that's friendlier than most Hacksaw releases.
Marlin symbols carry cash values from 1x to 1000x bet. They pay out through two paths. LootLines form when Marlin symbols create winning payline combinations - the payout equals the sum of all Marlin values in that line. Standard collect mechanic, nothing unusual here.
Fisherman symbols handle the second path. When a Fisherman lands, it collects every Marlin on the grid. Multiple Fisherman symbols each collect all Marlins independently - two Fisherman with four Marlins means eight collections. Fisherman can carry their own multiplier (1x through 20x) that applies to the total collected value.
Golden Marlins are the interesting addition. When a Golden Marlin is part of a LootLine win, it spreads its value to every normal Marlin on the grid before the win is calculated. A 50x Golden Marlin appearing alongside four regular Marlins adds 50x to each of them. That value spreading turns mid-range grids into substantial payouts.
Golden Fisherman activates after all normal Fisherman symbols resolve. It collects all Marlin values plus the already-collected totals from other Fisherman. So if a normal Fisherman with 5x multiplier collected 200x worth of Marlins (total 1000x), the Golden Fisherman scoops that 1000x along with collecting the Marlins again directly. Only one Golden Fisherman can appear per spin, which prevents infinite chaining but still creates a meaningful second collection pass.
Don't Be Koi (3 scatters, 8 free spins) introduces the Big Haul Bar. Every Fisherman that lands fills it one step, regardless of whether it actually collects anything that spin. Golden Marlins have a minimum 3x value. At the 4th Fisherman, Upgrade 1 triggers: +8 spins and all future Fisherman guaranteed at least 2x multiplier. At the 8th: +8 more spins, minimum 4x. At the 12th: +8 spins, minimum 10x. A fully upgraded Don't Be Koi run could last 32 spins with 10x guaranteed on every Fisherman.
Catch Me If You Can (4 scatters, 10 spins) runs the same upgrade system with stronger numbers. All Fisherman start at 2x minimum, Golden Marlins at 5x. Upgrade thresholds give +10 spins each and push Fisherman minimums to 4x, 10x, and 15x. Fully upgraded: 40 total spins possible, 15x minimum per Fisherman.
Hooked on Paradise (5 scatters, 10 spins, Epic Bonus) swaps the Big Haul Bar for Sticky Fisherman. One Sticky Fisherman sits on the grid from the start and collects Marlins every single spin until the bonus ends. Additional Sticky Fisherman (and Sticky Golden Fisherman) can land and persist too. Golden Marlins carry minimum 3x. At bonus end, all Sticky Fisherman values pay out. It's an accumulation model - early spins build the Fisherman count, late spins benefit from multiple persistent collectors hitting every Marlin that appears.
The paytable reads like a low-volatility game. Five low-pays at 0.1x to 2x, best high-pay at 5x for five-of-a-kind. Regular symbol wins are filler. All meaningful payouts come through the Marlin collection system, which depends on landing Fisherman and Marlin together on the same spin.
Four buy options: BonusHunt (5x rate), Fin-tastic (guarantees 3 Marlins + 1 Fisherman), Sea-riously Epic Drop (3 Marlins + 1 Golden + 1 Fisherman), plus the standard don't-be-koi purchase. The FeatureSpins modes are a good way to see the collection mechanic in action without full bonus commitment.
Between the Golden Marlin value spreading, Golden Fisherman chain collection, Big Haul Bar progression, and Sticky Fisherman accumulation, there are more collection layers here than in most fishing slots. Whether that complexity adds genuine depth or just extra steps between you and the payout is a matter of preference.
