About Shields of Rome Slot

A counter ticks away at the top of the reels, "1 OF 10 SPINS", and it changes how the base game reads. Every S.P.Q.R. laurel shield that lands sets one grid position alight and keeps it lit. Then, on each tenth spin, every position you've lit that way flips to a golden eagle wild at once. Stack up enough shields over the run-up and that tenth spin can drop a screenful of wilds in one go, so the base game is really a slow build toward those checkpoint spins rather than a series of isolated results.

The golden SPQR eagle standard is the wild the rest of the time, covering every paying symbol but not the catapult bonus. Tall legionary and gladiator characters stack up the reels too, and they carry their own wild versions.

The bonus is where Playtech hands you the dial. Land three catapult symbols on reels two, three and four to open the Great War, then pick your own volatility from four packages: 15 free spins with 5 random wilds seeded each spin, 10 spins with 7 wilds, 5 spins with 10 wilds, or a Mystery Shield that scrambles the mix for you. Same feature, four different risk profiles, decided before a single free spin runs. The Buy Feature button skips the wait and drops you straight onto that choice screen.

One honest caveat. The ceiling here is low, a modest cap that sits far under what most modern bonus games reach, and the whole thing is tuned for frequent small hits rather than one big score. That's a deliberate choice, not a shortfall, but it's worth knowing going in.

The board is a Roman battlefield at dusk, a hazy orange sky over sand-coloured ruins and siege towers, a bronze eagle standard planted on the left and a red SPQR banner hanging on the right. A brazier smoulders in the corner. The premiums are painted war icons, a snarling plumed legionary, a red-crested galea helmet, a segmented lorica breastplate, crossed gladius swords and a golden grail spilling grapes, with battered A-K-Q-J-10 royals filling the low end over a deep maroon reel field.
