Taboo launched at ICE London 2018 and immediately became the most talked-about game on the show floor, though not entirely for its mechanics. Endorphina built a slot around BDSM culture at a time when no other licensed provider would touch the subject. Seven years later, it still stands alone in that category. The quilted leather background, metal-and-red color palette, and symbols pulled straight from a fetish catalog (flogger, handcuffs, riding crop, leather cuffs) give it an aesthetic no other game shares.
On the grid: 5 reels, 3 rows, 25 adjustable paylines reading left to right. The masked dominatrix is the premium symbol at 400x total bet for five across a single line. Four gold letter symbols (B, D, S, M) and the flogger share the lowest payout tier at 4x. With all 25 lines active and the top symbol filling every position, the math reaches 10,000x total bet.
The Wild (a red studded leather cushion) appears on reels 2, 3, and 4 only. It expands to fill its entire reel, but with a condition: expansion happens only when it completes a winning combination. If the Wild lands on reel 3 and covering the full reel creates at least one new payline hit, it expands. If not, it stays in its single position. This makes the Wild behavior less predictable than typical expanding wilds, where the expansion is automatic regardless of outcome.
One quirk: the Wild substitutes for the Scatter (high-heeled shoes) to complete Scatter wins, but it does not expand when doing so. It replaces only one Scatter per reel in those combinations.
Three Triskele symbols on reels 3, 4, and 5 trigger the bonus. The Triskele is the universal BDSM emblem, and it gates access to a two-stage feature.
Stage one: the Triskele Wheel. A 24-sector wheel holds multipliers of 10x, 12x, 15x, 20x, and 25x total bet across 20 sectors, with 4 sectors marked BONUS. You get three spins. After each spin, you choose: take the multiplier or spin again. Only the last result counts, so spinning again erases the previous outcome. That 25x multiplier on the first spin becomes zero if you get greedy and land 10x on attempt three.
Stage two: the Red Room. Landing on a BONUS sector sends you into a pick-and-click game with 5 levels. Each level shows 5 objects. Pick one. A YES response awards a cash prize and unlocks the next level. A NO gives nothing but lets you continue. A STOP ends everything immediately. All prizes from completed levels add up. The risk/reward structure is straightforward: deeper levels pay better, but STOP lurks behind every selection.
Endorphina added the Bonus Pop buy feature to Taboo in mid-2023, well after the original release. At 109x total bet, it triggers the full Red Room bonus (the wheel spin lands on BONUS automatically). At a €0.25 bet, that costs €27.25. The buy option uses the lower RTP tier (93.77%), and winnings from purchased bonuses are not eligible for the Risk Game. Availability depends on the operator and jurisdiction.
Taboo includes Endorphina's standard card-draw gamble feature. Beat the dealer's card to double your win, up to 10 consecutive attempts. The game publishes its exact probabilities per dealer card in the help section, and the numbers reveal something important: the average per-round return is 84%. Your odds swing wildly depending on the dealer draw. A dealer 2 gives you 162% expected return. A dealer Ace drops you to 42%. The Joker beats everything and never appears for the dealer. Knowing these odds makes the gamble feature a calculated decision rather than a coin flip.
The adult content restricts where Taboo shows up. It's available in roughly 50 countries, far fewer than a typical Endorphina title. Some operators block it entirely regardless of jurisdiction. Endorphina groups it informally with Twerk and Diamond Vapor as their adult-themed trio, though these three share zero mechanical connections.
The Triskele Wheel and Red Room combination gives Taboo a bonus structure with genuine tension and player agency. But the base game runs on 2018-era mechanics with no cascades, no multiplier progression, and payline wins that lean heavily on a single premium symbol. The conditional Wild expansion is the one mechanical wrinkle that separates base game sessions from a standard 5x3 payline slot. For a niche audience, the theme alone makes it worth trying. For everyone else, the bonus features need to carry the weight, and at 109x for the buy-in, that's a steep entry.
