Very Hot 40 Christmas Slot Overview

A fruit machine in a Christmas jumper. Fazi took Very Hot 40, left every seven, bell and cherry exactly where it was, and set the reels in front of a decorated tree with presents piled at its feet.

The whole game hangs on one symbol. A green four-leaf clover lands on the middle three reels only, and when it arrives it stretches to cover that reel completely, standing in for everything except the two stars. Forty fixed lines run through those reels, so one clover pays down a fistful of them at once.

There is no bonus round to chase. No free spins, no buy button. What is left is a high-volatility line game with a 5,000x ceiling, 96.53% RTP and three mystery progressives ticking away under the reels.

Theme & Design

Flaming 40 numerals run down both sides of the reel set, three to a side, and the whole cabinet sits in an orange fire-glow that never quite settles. On the left, a tree with baubles and a gold star, wrapped gifts spilling out from under it. On the right, a red and yellow striped market stall awning with more presents stacked beneath. Snow drifts across all of it, and the festive backdrop is easily the best-looking part of the game.

The symbols get no such treatment. Faceted ruby sevens, gold bells with a fat clapper, glossy watermelon wedges, plums, grapes, lemons and paired cherries, the same set as the non-festive version and not one of them holiday-themed. Winning symbols catch fire along the payline, which is the one animation the game bothers with, and it does look good. The logo above the reels still reads Very Hot 40, no Christmas in it anywhere, which tells you how deep the reskin goes.

Features & How They Work

The Expanding Clover Wild

The clover lands on reels 2, 3 and 4 and nowhere else. When it does it expands to fill its reel top to bottom and substitutes for every symbol except the blue and red stars. It carries no pay of its own, so it works purely as a connector.

Because the lines all funnel through the middle of the board, a covered reel is worth far more than a single extra symbol. Two clovers on adjacent middle reels is where the sevens start paying properly, and the 5,000x ceiling assumes all three arrive at once with the right symbol either side. Expanding wilds carrying a whole slot is normal for this studio, but here there is nothing else to fall back on.

Two Scatters, Both Paying From Anywhere

The blue star is the better of the pair: five anywhere on the board returns 100x, four gives 20x, three gives 3x. The red star pays 20x for three and stops there. Neither needs to sit on a line, neither triggers anything, and the pay is simply added on top of whatever the lines produced that spin.

Two scatters that award money and unlock nothing is an odd bit of design (the kind of thing you either shrug at or never notice), but it does mean a spin that looks dead can still hand back a bet or two.

Gold, Diamond and Platinum Jackpots

Three mystery progressives cycle through the meter under the reels, pooled across the operator rather than fed by one player. Platinum tends to sit in the low hundreds, Gold a little above it, Diamond up in four figures and climbing toward five. They drop at a hidden random point rather than on any symbol combination, and a slice of every bet feeds them, so staking closer to the 48.00 maximum shortens your odds of catching one.

None of that sits inside the quoted 96.53%. The jackpot contribution is funded separately, on top.

Red or Black

Any win lights the gamble button. Guess the colour of a face-down card and the win doubles, guess wrong and it is gone. You can keep pushing until you miss or until the total hits the 50,000 gamble limit, and the double-up round will interrupt autoplay to ask you. On a game where most wins come back smaller than the stake, it is a tempting way to turn nothing into slightly less than nothing.

How Very Hot 40 Christmas Plays

Spins resolve instantly and there is nothing to sit through, so sessions move quickly. Quickly enough that a hundred spins disappear before you have noticed spending them. Most pay nothing at all, and the ones that do land tend to return a fraction of the stake, a line of three lemons on a 40-cent bet giving back a dime. That drip is what high volatility looks like from the inside on a 40-line game: enough small change to keep the balance limping, never enough to move it.

The tension, such as it is, lives in the middle of the board. After a while you stop watching the outer reels and just look for green. When it turns up the whole screen goes to flames, and that jump from nothing to something is abrupt in a way most modern slots have designed out on purpose.

The cycling jackpot meter does quiet work too. It is the only number on screen bigger than your balance, and glancing at it is probably why the game holds attention longer than its feature list deserves.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • One clover can cover a big share of the 40 lines at once, which makes the middle reels the only ones worth watching
  • Both star scatters pay from any position and stack on top of line wins
  • 96.53% RTP is above par for a classic fruit reskin
  • Three pooled progressives run alongside the base game at no extra stake

Cons

  • No free spins, no bonus round, no buy option: the base game is the entire game
  • Nothing about the symbols is festive, only the background art
  • Long gaps between clovers, and the low fruit pays too little to bridge them
  • The 5,000x ceiling needs all three middle reels wild at the same time

Is Very Hot 40 Christmas Worth Playing?

4/10

Fazi builds these to sit in a lobby next to twenty others like them, and on those terms Very Hot 40 Christmas works. The clover is a stronger mechanic than it looks written down, the return is fair, and the pace suits a short sitting where you want the reels to just go.

Where it falls short is ambition. Very Hot 20 and Very Hot 5 play more or less the same with fewer lines, and the Christmas edition adds decorations rather than anything you can actually play with. A festive slot with no festive feature, no gift picks, not even a seasonal wild, leaves the theme doing nothing but sitting there. The clover, the two stars and the gamble button are all there is, and by the fiftieth spin you have seen the lot.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the maximum win on Very Hot 40 Christmas?

5,000x the stake. Getting there needs the clover wild covering reels 2, 3 and 4 together with the top symbol filling in around them, so treat it as a rarity rather than a target.

Does Very Hot 40 Christmas have free spins?

No. There are no free spins, no bonus round and no bonus buy. The expanding clover wild, the two pay-anywhere star scatters and the red-or-black gamble are the only extras.

What is the RTP and volatility?

96.53% RTP with high volatility. That percentage does not include the jackpot contribution, which is funded separately out of each bet.

How do the Gold, Diamond and Platinum jackpots trigger?

They are mystery progressives, so they drop at a random hidden point rather than on a symbol combination. Part of every bet feeds the pools, and a larger stake improves the chance of hitting one.

Is Very Hot 40 Christmas playable for free, and what is the age limit?

Yes, the demo runs in a browser with play money and no signup, which is a cheap way to see how often the clover actually shows up. Real-money play is restricted to 18+ (21+ in some jurisdictions), so set a budget first and treat any spend as entertainment.
