About Aldo's Journey Slot
The 5x5 grid is split into four colour-coded rectangles - Italy in the top-left, Mongolia top-right, Persia bottom-left, China bottom-right - with a single Centre Square in the middle. Aldo, the bearded merchant in beige adventurer's gear, stands somewhere on this grid and physically walks one cell in any of eight directions every spin. He acts as a wild wherever he stops, and his position carries over between spins (only changing your coin value resets him). His current rectangle decides which of five free spin modes you get when 3 scatters land on reels 2, 3 and 4.
Italy starts free spins on a x2 multiplier that climbs +1 every spin. Mongolia strips one regular symbol from the reels at the end of each spin, and once only two symbols remain it switches to +1x multiplier per spin instead. Persia has Aldo throw a fresh sticky wild to a random cell every spin, and they accumulate without overlapping. China draws a line of 1-5 wilds, including Aldo himself, extending in one of eight directions to the edge of the grid, opening on x2. The fifth mode, Journey, only triggers if Aldo is on the Centre Square at the moment of the trigger - it copies whichever neighbouring region's mechanic is active and adds 3 extra spins on top.
The base game has its own centre-square trick called Wild Time. When Aldo walks onto the middle cell, 3 to 9 random wilds drop in and any win that spin is multiplied by x2, x3 or x4. In free spins the same event adds +1, +2 or +3 to the round's running multiplier counter (Journey FS is excluded from this).
Visually, the cardboard scroll holding the reels sits over a hand-painted map showing all four destinations at once - Italian villas and a coastal harbour on the left, Mongolian yurts and a Chinese pagoda on the right, Persian arches below. The high-pay symbols are regional artefacts (dagger, bow, lamp, dragon coin), low pays are carved-wood card royals, and all four highs share the same paytable, as do all four lows. From a 2019 release this is one of Yggdrasil's more inventive bonus systems, and the persistent walking character predates a lot of the adventure-themed slots that copied the idea later. Max win is capped at 4,205x.
