It's always raining in Crime Town, and three mob bosses are fighting over the same thing: the chips that stack up above the reels. Land the coloured tokens as you spin and they drop into three collectors, one per boss. Fill a collector and that boss hands over his own set of free games. That's the whole hook, and it's a good one.

What sets it apart from most of Amigo Gaming's catalogue is that each of the three bonuses plays differently. One gives expanding wilds, one gives sticky wilds, one gives multiplier wilds. Same 5x3, 30-line base game feeds all three, but which reward you're chasing changes how a session feels.

The setting is 1940s noir, and it's done with real care. Rain slicks a downtown street at night, vintage cars roll past with their headlights smeared across the wet asphalt, and a skyline of brick tenements and a distant art-deco tower fills the space behind the reels. Amber neon glows from a shopfront off to one side. It leans into the crime mood without tipping into parody.

Premium symbols are character portraits set in gold art-deco brackets: a cigar-chewing boss in a dark suit and red tie, a flat-capped heavy clutching a fan of banknotes, a red-haired woman in a white gown and gold choker, and a slick young gunman with a revolver. Low pays are the four card suits cut as faceted gems, ruby hearts and diamonds against onyx spades and clubs. The wild is a pair of aces going up in flames. Above everything sit the three chip collectors, purple, red and green, each stamped with a fedora silhouette. It's a good-looking game.

Most of a session is spent watching those three meters more than the reels themselves. The base game pays in small, frequent line wins off the gem suits, and the real question on every spin is whether a chip drops and which colour it is. That gives the grind some structure, since you're always a little closer to something than you were a spin ago.

And it is a grind. High volatility with no buy button means long dry stretches between bonuses, and because the three meters fill on their own, you can spend a good while feeding a boss you weren't especially chasing. When a round finally lands it's over fairly quickly, and the wild behaviour, not a big feature stack, is doing the work. The tension sits in the wait, not the payout.

Crime Town takes one of Amigo Gaming's better ideas and wraps it in a sharp noir skin. The three-way split of expanding, sticky and multiplier wilds gives it more variety than most of the studio's plain line games, and the look earns it attention on its own. It's the kind of design that keeps you occupied between features instead of just waiting them out.

The ceiling is the problem. A 3,300x cap is low for a game this volatile, and the reward for such a long grind ought to feel bigger than that. It's a stylish, well-built mid-tier slot that stops just short of the studio's fullest releases. Good for the variety and the atmosphere, less so if a headline number is what you're after.
