Dead Man's Gold is the pirate chapter in ELK Studios' long-running Gold adventure series. Kane Steel trades jungle temples for Caribbean waters, and the engine gets a serious upgrade to match. The grid starts at 6x4 with 4,096 ways to win, but each avalanche cascade adds a row. At full expansion (6x8), you're playing with 262,144 ways. That's a huge jump from the series' earlier entries.
Symbols come in four sizes - standard 1x1, Super 2x2, Mega 3x3, and Epic 4x4. A single Epic symbol covers 16 positions across four reels. Combined with the expanding grid and avalanche wins, one lucky cascade sequence builds fast.
The standout mechanic here is the Pirate's Cannons system. Cannonball symbols land on the reels and get collected. Once all symbols settle and at least one win appears, the cannons fire at Treasure Target symbols sitting on the grid. Each shot reveals hidden wilds underneath and blows up adjacent non-winning symbols, creating space for new drops.
Multiplier Treasure Targets carry an X marking. When hit, they bump up a persistent global multiplier that never resets during the round. This multiplier carries into the bonus game too, so entering free drops with a 5x or 10x multiplier already active changes everything.
The Bottomless Chest sits in its column and acts as a symbol forge. Whenever space opens below it, the chest pushes out high-value symbols, wilds, and cannonballs. It stays sticky through the entire bonus game.
Three or more Bonus symbols trigger free drops: 10 for three scatters, scaling up to 25 for six. Treasure Targets persist between spins until they contribute to a win. The Bottomless Chest stays put for the entire bonus. Cannonballs and the global multiplier both carry over from the base game, so a strong base game round feeds directly into the bonus.
X-iter offers five buy-in levels. The 25x Super Cannon spin gives unlimited cannonball ammo plus a chance at the Super Bonus on trigger. At 100x, you buy guaranteed bonus entry with sticky Treasure Targets and a sticky Bottomless Chest. The 500x Super Bonus tier adds unlimited cannon ammo on top of that.
RTP sits at 94.0% - standard for ELK's post-2022 titles but below the industry average of around 96%. Hit frequency is 22.1%, meaning roughly one in five spins returns something. The 25,000x max win is the highest the Gold series has offered. Earlier entries like Ecuador Gold capped at 2,500x, and even Katmandu Gold only reached 10,000x.
The 3D art style is polished - golden skulls, krakens, anchors, and treasure chests against a dark navy backdrop with misty tropical islands behind the reels. The visuals match the series standard. The pirate theme itself doesn't break new ground, but the cannon targeting system gives it a mechanical identity that other pirate slots lack.
