Dorks of the Deep runs on a 5x4 grid with 14 paylines and builds everything around its Treasure Chest symbol. When a Chest lands and forms part of a winning combination, it expands to cover the entire reel as a Wild. That expanded Wild Reel then reveals one of three characters, each tied to a different multiplier range.
The Octopus is the low tier: 2x through 9x. Mermaid is mid-range: 10x, 15x, or 20x. Ocean King sits at the top with 25x, 50x, 100x, or 200x. Whatever character appears, its multiplier applies to every winning combination that runs through that reel. Two Wild Reels in the same win add their multipliers together. Only one Treasure Chest lands per reel at a time.
If a Treasure Chest doesn't form a win when it lands, it stays as a single Wild symbol. No expansion, no character reveal, no multiplier. The expansion only triggers on a winning position.
Deep Blue (3 scatters, 10 free spins) changes the expansion rule: Treasure Chests always expand into Wild Reels regardless of whether they're part of a win. Each Wild Reel reveals 0 to 3 lives and stays sticky on the grid for as long as it has lives remaining. One life is removed per spin. And here's the part that matters - every spin gives each sticky Wild Reel a new random multiplier from any of the three character tiers. So a reel that started as an Octopus at 3x might become an Ocean King at 100x on the next spin.
Last Chance kicks in if any Wild Reel still has lives when the last free spin ends. The bonus extends with additional respins until all lives are depleted. New Treasure Chests keep landing during Last Chance, potentially starting the cycle again.
Down Under (4 scatters, 10 free spins) adds one rule that changes the math significantly. Sticky Wild Reels never get a lower character tier than what they initially revealed. Land as Mermaid, and subsequent spins give you either Mermaid or Ocean King multipliers - never Octopus. This progressive tier lock means a Wild Reel that sticks around for several spins keeps escalating in multiplier potential.
Hidden Treasures (5 scatters, Hidden Epic Bonus, 10 free spins) guarantees 2 expanded Wild Reels on the grid at all times until the bonus ends, using the Down Under tier lock. Two persistent Wild Reels with escalating multipliers on a 5x4 grid covers 40% of the reels in Wild positions.
The underwater cartoon aesthetic is cheerful - a colorful coral reef with three goofy sea creatures guarding treasure. Purple octopus, glamorous mermaid, imposing Ocean King with his trident. Sea creature symbols (crabs, seahorses, starfish) fill the high-pay positions, and the art is bright enough to stand apart from Hacksaw's usual dark-and-edgy catalog.
Buy options include BonusHunt FeatureSpins (5x trigger rate), Bubbly FeatureSpins (guaranteed 2+ Treasure Chests per spin), and direct buys for Deep Blue and Down Under.
The expanding wild mechanic is well-trodden ground, and the base game leans on it heavily - without a Chest expansion, spins are quiet. The paytable pays modestly: top standard symbol at 10x for five of a kind, lows at 0.2x to 1.5x. But the tiered multiplier system and the sticky-with-lives bonus mechanic add enough wrinkles to keep the expanding wild formula from feeling completely recycled. The Ocean King at 200x on a single reel is where the 10,000x ceiling becomes realistic.
