About Fortunes of the Dead Slot

Three separate bonus triggers can fire on a single spin, and they don't cancel each other - the Skull pick-me, the Once In A Wild respin, and the Free Games can all hit on the same press of the button. That's the unusual piece of this one, because most 2017-era 50-line slots gate their features behind exclusive triggers.

The Skull Bonus is the cleanest of the three. Land a skull on reels 1, 3 and 5 in the same spin and you pick one of the three to reveal an instant cash prize. No multi-stage ladder, no second pick, just one tap and the credits drop. Skulls only appear on those three reels, so the trigger is rare but the payout is direct.

Once In A Wild is the random feature. It can drop on any base game spin without warning, and when it does the reels lock for one respin with four wilds added in random positions. There's a floor on the payout - if the respin doesn't connect anything meaningful, the game still pays out a minimum of 50% of your stake. So the worst outcome on a triggered Once In A Wild is still a half-bet refund, which is a softer landing than most random respin features offer.

Free Games come from three scatters on reels 2, 3 and 4. You get exactly 5 spins, no scaling for extra scatters and no retrigger inside the bonus. The hook is that each spin drops one wild somewhere on the grid, and it sticks for the remainder of the round. By spin five you can be holding four locked wilds on top of whatever the fifth spin lands. With wild substituting for everything except the Skull and the Scatter, the late spins of a hot Free Games round are where the big multipliers actually build.

Visually the game leans hard into Mexican Day of the Dead iconography - a sugar-skull bull mask, a skeleton riding a horse for the Scatter, glowing skulls in a moonlit desert with cacti and adobe ruins behind the reels. Less cartoonish than something like 3 Muertos, more painted and folk-art in style. Side City Studios developed the title, with distribution running through the old NextGen launcher that now sits under Light & Wonder's catalog.
