Riddec Games has been shipping the same maths in different wrappers. Ultimate KO and Primal Fury came out weeks apart carrying an identical block: 95.14% RTP, the same 7,500x max win, the same five lines, and Ultimate KO squeezed onto a 3x3 grid. So when I heard they were dropping Sari-Sari Shop, I didn't expect much.

But I'll hand it to them: they actually broke the mold this time. They ditched the tiny grids for a full 7x7 cascading board and bumped up the max win to 10,000x. For a studio that felt stuck on repeat, this is a huge step in the right direction.

Instead of another generic, copy-paste candy theme, Riddec went with a hyper-specific Filipino corner store, and you can tell they actually cared about the details. You've got Tita Nene hanging out at the counter in her hair curlers, and the board is packed with roast lechon, ube ice cream, fruit salad, and bananas. Even the background shelves are stocked with fake brands that look totally real. It's got so much personality.

The game plays like Candy Crush, you need a cluster of five matching symbols touching to get a win, and then they pop to let new symbols drop.

Here is where it gets incredibly frustrating, though. The main feature is a multiplier symbol that looks like a bag of sweets. In the base game, these bags only stick around for one single drop. If you get a winning cluster, great, the bags add up and multiply your win. But if you don't get a win? The bags are worthless.

Ten of my twenty-five base spins dropped a bag, and exactly one of them paid. Twice the board sat there holding 9x and 11x and made no cluster at all, and since there are no wild symbols to save you, those multipliers just vanish into thin air. (Also, a quick heads up: the game's own rulebook has a typo. It says a 6-symbol lechon cluster pays lower than it actually does. It pays 1.50x).

If you can manage to land four scatters, you get 15 free spins. This is where the game actually gets good.

In the bonus round, the multipliers stop teasing you. Every bag that drops, even on a dead spin, gets added to a permanent counter that doesn't reset. My counter climbed past 100x before the round was out, and by then the cheapest, crappiest cluster was turning into a real payout: one spin paid 270x on a board with no bag on it at all, purely on what the counter had already collected.

If you don't want to wait, you can buy the bonus for 100x your bet. If you're feeling crazy, there's a "Super" version for 500x, and what that actually buys is worth knowing: the cheap one drops four scatters on the trigger board and the expensive one drops five, which is the next rung of the game's own table, so 500x gets you 20 spins instead of 15 plus bigger bags. In my two rounds nothing under 5x landed in the Super and nothing over 10x landed in the cheap one, which is one round each rather than a rule. There are also a few special spin bets you can buy, including a wild 250x spin that guarantees a 50x multiplier bag. Just be warned: because of how the game works, you can pay 250x for that spin, get the 50x bag, and still win nothing because the symbols didn't line up.

Is it worth playing? It depends.

Sari-Sari Shop is going toe-to-toe with games like Sugar Rush, but there's a catch: the math. This game has a 95.02% RTP (Return to Player), and the 7x7 boards it is lining up against sit above it, Whale Rush runs 96.04% for the same 10,000x cap, and Sugar Rush and Snow Party both run 96.50%.

Riddec built a really cool, beautiful world here. The big wins in the bonus round are incredibly fun when they pop off. But to get there, you have to endure a base game that pays out peanuts and constantly teases you with multipliers you can't use. Play it for the theme and the bonus potential, but keep an eye on your bankroll, this game is brutal.
