Gladiator Legends runs a 5x4 grid with 10 paylines and Hacksaw's DuelReels mechanic. The VS symbol is the trigger. When it lands, the reel expands into a DuelReel showing two gladiators at opposite ends, each carrying a multiplier value between 2x and 100x. They fight. The survivor's multiplier takes over the entire reel, turning it wild.
In the base game, DuelReels only activate if the resulting wild reel creates at least one winning combination. Multiple DuelReels on the same spin means multiple wild reels with multipliers - and when those multipliers sit on the same payline, they get added together. Two DuelReels at 25x and 50x on a single payline means 75x applied to that win. If VS symbols land on all five reels simultaneously, the entire grid turns wild.
This is the second DuelReels game in Hacksaw's catalog, following Warrior Ways. Same core engine, different theme and bonus structure.
Three Arena scatters trigger this bonus. It starts with 3 spins, resets to 3 whenever a VS symbol lands, and ends after 3 consecutive non-winning spins. Each reel displays a Reel Multiplier above it. When a DuelReel expands, the surviving gladiator's multiplier replaces whatever Reel Multiplier was already there. That's the catch - a reel sitting at 75x gets overwritten to 5x if the new duel produces a lower value.
Multiplier Coins add another layer. Normal Coins multiply a single Reel Multiplier by 2x to 10x. Epic Coins multiply all five Reel Multipliers at once by the same range. Coins activate before VS symbols each spin, so a well-timed Epic Coin at 10x applied to five reels loaded with multipliers creates massive totals. Reel Multipliers here reach up to 1,000x individually. Total win at the end equals the sum of all Reel Multipliers times the bet.
DuelReels are not wild during bonus games - they contribute multiplier values only. Six DEAD filler symbols replace some regular paying symbols in the bonus reel set, so winning paylines are harder to form without the wild DuelReel assistance.
Three Beast scatters trigger this alternative bonus. Same 3-spin reset structure. The key difference: Reel Multipliers on reels 1, 2, 4, and 5 accumulate instead of replacing. Every DuelReel result adds to the existing multiplier. A reel at 20x that gets a 15x duel result becomes 35x. No overwriting, only growth.
Reel 3 starts locked. It unlocks after VS has landed at least once on each of the four outer reels. Once active, reel 3 becomes the Beast Reel with a special multiplier (2x to 20x) that multiplies the other reels' values before they get added to their Reel Multipliers. A Beast Reel at 10x with an outer reel duel result of 30x means that outer reel gains 300x instead of 30x.
The accumulation mechanic makes Unleash the Beast feel fundamentally different from Champions. No risk of losing built-up multiplier values, but you need VS symbols on all four outer reels before the Beast Reel activates. Long sessions where VS avoids one specific reel for multiple spins keep reel 3 locked and the multiplier-of-multiplier mechanic dormant.
Four buy options: two FeatureSpin tiers guaranteeing 1 or 2 VS symbols per base game spin, plus direct buys for each bonus. The base paytable sits low for a 10-payline game - the premium symbol and Wild both pay 30x for 5oak, and most symbols return under 5x. Everything pushes toward the DuelReel multiplier interactions as the win driver. Without VS triggers, this is a low-yield 10-payline slot. With them, it's a gladiator arena where multiplier duels determine everything.
