Everything around it is classic stock: sevens, bells, cherries, ten fixed lines on a 5x3 grid. What separates this edition from the rest of the Golden Crown shelf is that it carries two different crowns instead of one, returns 96.53% where the others sit at 95.96%, and reaches 3,000x against their 1,400x-ish ceilings. Same fruit, better maths.

The whole thing sits on padded gold upholstery stamped with fleur-de-lis, the kind of quilting a casino puts on the wall behind a bar-top cabinet. Three jackpot bars run across the top in gold, blue and silver. Below them the reel strips are almost black inside a gold frame, which makes the fruit pop hard: purple grape bunches, deep blue plums, watermelon slices with the pips drawn in, halved lemons showing every segment, cherries still on the stem. The red 7 is cut like a gemstone with a gold border and is easily the best-drawn thing on the board.

The crowns got the proper artwork. Both are jewelled and gold-framed, one capped in red velvet with an x2 badge tacked to the corner, the other in royal blue with a green stone at the peak. When a line pays, flame licks up behind the winning symbols while the payline itself is drawn in flat yellow, which looks cheap next to the rest, though it reads instantly. There is no story being told here and none is needed.

Ten lines on a 5x3 board pays out in dribs. Most spins that land anything land a lemon or an orange for a fraction of the stake, and a session settles into a flat hum broken every so often by a crown dropping into the middle. That rhythm does not change between spin one and spin one thousand.

The Super Spin is the interesting bit of pacing, though not in the way you would expect. Because the middle reel locks in early, the spin resolves front to back instead of building towards the last reel, which kills one kind of tension and creates another. A fully wild reel 3 with two reels still turning is as close as this game gets to making you lean in.

The meters overhead take some getting used to. They drop on a hidden trigger, there is nothing to play towards, and at a nickel a spin the chance of being the one to reach the number is somewhere near zero (and yes, they tick up in front of you the whole time, cent by cent). Treat them as wallpaper and the game will probably sit better.

Of the Golden Crown titles this is the one to load first. The Super Spin is smart staging for a game this simple, the two-crown split gives reel 3 more to do than the single expanding wild manages on Golden Crown Booster, and half a point of extra RTP counts for something when a game asks you to grind the base for the entire session.

It is still a base game with no second act. Once a red crown has filled the middle reel and doubled a line of sevens, that is the ceiling of what happens here, and it arrives well inside the first few hundred spins. Fazi has built a well-made version of a cabinet game, running at a better return than any of its relatives, with nothing behind it.
