Ice Mania is a fruit machine that someone left in a freezer. Three reels, three rows, five lines, cherries and lemons and a fat red 7, all bolted inside a neon-blue cabinet. The odd thing about it is the wild: an ice cube that substitutes for every symbol and is also the highest payer in the game, worth 500x for three across a line.

Beyond that, nothing. No scatter, no free spins, no bonus round, no buy feature, no jackpot, no multiplier. Evoplay put it out in October 2020 as a pure line-pay classic and left it there. RTP is 96.09%, the ceiling is 520x total bet, and stakes run from 0.10 to 75.

The cabinet does most of the work. It is a chunky arcade machine rendered in icy blue with a cyan glow bleeding off its edges, teal squiggles running down the reel dividers, and a dot matrix marquee across the top that spells out PRESS SPIN in yellow bulbs before flashing the win total in white when something lands. Against the near-black background it looks like a slot left running in a walk-in freezer. That is roughly the whole concept.

The symbols undercut it. Cherries, yellow lemons, purple plums, oranges, halved watermelons, a bunch of grapes and a dark red 7, all drawn in the standard glossy fruit-machine style with a faint cold rim light doing the theming. Only the wild commits: a translucent ice cube with an orange W frozen inside and a second smaller cube chipped off beside it. It is the one piece of art that belongs to a winter game rather than to every fruit slot ever made. Before the first spin the reels sit in a burst of fruit streaking past on both sides with BIG WIN on the marquee, which is a fairly bold promise for a 520x game.

Spins are quick and the loop is short, which is both the appeal and the trouble. Nothing carries over. No counter fills, no bonus creeps closer, no reason for one spin to feel different from the last, so a session is simply whatever the variance of the past few minutes happened to be. The tension, such as it is, sits entirely in whether a second ice cube shows up next to the first.

Evoplay does not publish a hit rate for it, and the figure that gets quoted, around 14%, matches how the game behaves: long flat stretches broken by small returns. The marquee lights up the same way for a 1x line as it does for something worth keeping, which is the oldest trick in the cabinet, and after a hundred spins you stop looking at it. Red 7s and cubes are the only two symbols that move a balance.

Judged as a classic, Ice Mania does the job cleanly. Five lines you read without thinking, a fair long-run return, and one symbol on the reels worth watching for. The wild being the 500x top payer is a small idea, but it is a real one, and it gives an otherwise bare 3x3 a focal point.

The trouble is what Evoplay has done elsewhere with the same three reels. The Empty-symbol versions of this format reach 3,078x; this one stops at 520x with no feature to wait for, which asks a lot of the base spins. For my money the ice cube is the only reason to pick it over the dozen other frosted fruit machines out there, and one symbol is a thin reason.
