The name gives it away. "Illogicool" is ELK Studios doing Star Trek with the subtlety of a neon sign. You've got a bearded captain, a red-haired officer, a spaceship cockpit, and blue fuzzy aliens called Troubles. Sound familiar? The visual treatment is unusual, though - photo-realistic character faces sit on cartoon bodies against a retro-futuristic backdrop. It works for some people. Others find it a bit uncanny.
Behind the quirky exterior sits a 6x6 grid running 46,656 all-ways pays with an avalanche mechanic. Wins explode, symbols drop, new ones fill in. Standard cascade stuff. What makes Illogicool different is the Cool Reel sitting on top of everything.
That glowing tube across the top of the grid is the Cool Reel - a horizontal conveyor belt that slides symbols in from the right. Paying symbols (including Wilds and Locked Wilds) are active immediately while sitting up there. Feature symbols like Troubles and Monster Wilds? They're dormant until they drop into the main 5-row grid below.
This creates a two-stage delivery system. You see what's coming before it arrives. After a cascade sequence ends with no more wins, Cool Reel symbols drop down to fill empty cells, the main grid refills, and the Cool Reel gets restocked. If a feature symbol drops in and triggers something new, the whole avalanche cycle starts again.
Illogicool is the second game to use this mechanic, after Tropicool. Same engine, different theme. ELK later expanded the concept into Tropi Cool 2, 3, and 5.
Forget the Wilds for a second. The Troubles mechanic is where things get interesting. When two adjacent Troubles land in the main grid, they shrink into sticky mini versions that cling to the top-right corner of their cells. Those cells are now empty, so new symbols drop in.
Win again, and the mini Troubles reproduce and spread to neighboring cells. This keeps going until you hit a non-win. At that point, every paying symbol sitting under a sticky Trouble transforms into one random matching symbol. Bonus symbols underneath upgrade to Super Bonus instead.
It's a spreading infection mechanic, and the payoff scales with how many cascades you chain together before the sequence breaks. A Double Troubles event - where a Trouble lands on an already-infected cell - triggers extra spreading, pushing the coverage further.
Standard Wilds substitute for everything except Bonus and feature symbols. Locked Wilds stick around for 3 consecutive wins before disappearing. Monster Wilds trigger on wins and expand vertically in both directions until they hit a blocker - a winning line, a non-sticky Trouble, or a Bonus symbol. The Monster Wild only activates in the main grid, so it needs to drop from the Cool Reel first.
Three or more Bonus/Super Bonus scatters in the main grid trigger Free Drops. The payout: 10 free drops for 3 scatters, scaling up to 25 for 6. Each Super Bonus scatter adds x5 to the Win Multiplier, stacking up to x30 if all 6 triggering symbols are Super Bonus.
During Free Drops, the Cool Reel adds two new feature symbol types: Extra Drops (adding 1, 2, or 5 more free spins) and Win Multiplier boosters (adding x1, x2, or x3). Locked Wilds carry over from base game to bonus, and Cool Reel symbols persist between free drops. That persistence matters - good symbols on the Cool Reel keep delivering value across multiple drops.
ELK's X-iter buy feature comes in five flavors here, which is more granular than most providers offer. The cheapest option is Guaranteed Win at 5x bet - just ensuring you don't dead spin. Locked Wilds costs 10x, Troubles activation runs 25x, straight Buy Bonus is 100x, and Super Bonus at 500x guarantees at least 2 Super Bonus symbols with a starting x10 multiplier.
All five tiers share the same 95.0% RTP as the base game. That 95% figure is below what most players consider comfortable these days, and ELK doesn't offer alternative RTP configurations for operators. One version, one number.
Hit frequency lands at 24.9%, so roughly one in four spins connects. For a high-volatility 6x6 all-ways slot, that's not bad. The 10,000x cap delivers a solid ceiling - at max bet, that's a million euros. But reaching it requires Super Bonus Free Drops with a stacked multiplier and premium symbol coverage.
The character symbols appearing as 1x2 enlarged versions add some visual punch and effectively double their presence on a reel. When they drop from the Cool Reel, they expand upward if there's room above them in the main grid.
Illogicool is a mid-tier ELK release. The Troubles mechanic brings genuine creativity, and the Cool Reel conveyor adds a layer of anticipation that flat grids lack. The 95% RTP and somewhat jarring art style hold it back from the top shelf, but the underlying math model and feature density make it worth loading up at least once.
