Keep 'em Cool builds its entire mechanic around temperature. Every paying symbol on the 5x5 grid exists in one of three states: fully frozen, half-frozen, or unfrozen. When a winning cluster forms, unfrozen symbols in the cluster get removed. Frozen and half-frozen symbols stay put. After wins resolve, all remaining unfrozen symbols across the grid get cleared too, and everything drops down a tier - fully frozen becomes half-frozen, half-frozen becomes unfrozen.
New symbols drop in to fill the gaps. Cascades continue until nothing new connects. The result is a grid where frozen symbols persist across multiple rounds, creating anchors that the rest of the grid rebuilds around.
Payouts are identical regardless of frozen state. A cluster of frozen HIGH_4 symbols pays the same 5,000x for 21+ as unfrozen ones. The freezing mechanic is about symbol retention, not value.
The Cocktail Glass symbol appears as a scatter and carries a counter (up to 5). When a win occurs while a Cocktail Glass sits on the grid, every symbol of the winning type gets re-frozen to fully frozen. Multiple winning types can be re-frozen in the same cascade.
Each re-freeze uses one charge. A Glass with 3 remaining can handle three separate re-freeze events before it's removed. This creates situations where a winning cluster pays out, the symbols would normally start thawing, but the Glass immediately locks them back to fully frozen - keeping them on the grid for additional rounds.
A well-timed Cocktail Glass on a large cluster of premium symbols creates a loop: the cluster pays, gets re-frozen, new symbols drop in and potentially form new clusters around the frozen anchors, which also pay and potentially trigger another re-freeze.
Blender symbols land and immediately choose one symbol type to absorb. Every instance of that symbol type gets pulled into the Blender, new symbols drop to replace them, and any new instances of the same type also get absorbed. The chain continues until no more of that type remain anywhere on the grid.
At the end, the Blender pays as if the total absorbed count were a single cluster. It starts at 2 and adds 1 per absorbed symbol. Absorb 15 of a high-pay type and the Blender pays the 17-18 cluster value for that symbol. It's an alternative win path that bypasses the normal cluster-connection requirement.
Three Picnic Basket scatters landing in the same round trigger the bonus. Each basket reveals 3 to 5 free spins, so the total ranges from 9 to 15. During the bonus, Cocktail Glass and Blender symbols appear more often, and additional Picnic Baskets add 2 to 5 extra spins each.
The bonus doesn't add new mechanics - just higher frequencies of the base game's special symbols. More Cocktail Glasses means more re-freezing, more Blenders means more absorption chains. The 5,000x ceiling lives in the bonus where these interactions overlap.
Buy options: BonusHunt FeatureSpins at 3x (5x higher trigger chance) or Sunset Picnic direct entry at 100x.
Medium volatility with a 31% hit frequency makes Keep 'em Cool one of Hacksaw's gentlest releases. Nearly one in three spins returns something. The 5,000x cap is modest, and the beach theme with tropical fruits and cocktails feels deliberately relaxed compared to the studio's usual dark aesthetic.
The paytable is actually quite generous at the top end. The premium symbol pays 5,000x for a 21+ cluster - meaning a single maximum cluster of one symbol type hits the game's entire ceiling without needing any multiplier system. That's unusual. Most games require multiplier chains to reach their cap. Here, cluster size alone can do it.
The trade-off: without multipliers, there's no way to exceed what the paytable offers. What you see is what you get. The frozen mechanic extends symbol life on the grid, but it doesn't amplify payouts beyond the table values.
