Monkey Pop 2 is a 5-reel slot from AvatarUX, the follow-up to their 2022 original that introduced PopWins to iGaming. The sequel keeps that expanding grid mechanic at the center and wraps it with a pre-bonus gamble sequence that doesn't exist in many other games. It launched December 5, 2025.

The PopWins Chain

The grid starts at 5x3 with 243 ways to win. Every winning symbol pops and is replaced by two symbols, which adds a row to that reel. More symbols mean more ways - and as long as new wins keep landing, the chain continues. In the base game, each reel can grow to six symbols tall (5x6 maximum, 7,776 ways). In Free Spins, the ceiling rises to seven rows per reel, reaching 16,807 ways at full expansion.

Going from 243 to 16,807 ways is a 69x increase, but that only matters during a sustained chain requiring consecutive win hits without gaps. Short chains are the default. Deep chains are rare, and that's where any significant payout actually forms.

Monkey's Blessings

In the base game, the Monkey randomly expands the board to full size at the start of any spin - no PopWins chain required to get there. This triggers the Global Multiplier, which starts at x1 and increments by +1 for every subsequent win hit in that same spin sequence. A spin with four consecutive wins after a Monkey's Blessings trigger would apply a x4 multiplier to the final win. You can't control when it triggers; it's a random base game event that bypasses the slow route to maximum ways.

Choose Your Fortune

Three Bonus symbols trigger a pre-bonus sequence before Free Spins begin. The game spins through three reward wheels independently, landing on a starting value for each parameter: Free Spins (7, 9, or 12), Starting Multiplier (x3, x5, or x10), and Starting Ways (1,024 at 4 rows, 3,125 at 5 rows, or 16,807 at full 7 rows).

Each parameter can be gambled separately for a one-tier upgrade. The risk: losing any single gamble forfeits the entire bonus round - not just that parameter, but the whole thing. So gambling three parameters means triple exposure to that outcome. If a parameter already landed at maximum, its gamble button is disabled.

The decision calculus changes depending on initial results. Landing x10 multiplier and 12 spins naturally means you only have Starting Ways left to gamble. Landing the lowest values on all three puts you in a tougher spot: collect a weak starting point or risk losing everything. Collecting immediately with whatever was awarded always stays on the table. No single strategy is objectively correct - it depends which parameters rolled and what you're willing to risk.

Free Spins

Free Spins run on the parameters collected or gambled for in Choose Your Fortune. The Starting Multiplier is the floor for the round, not a temporary boost - it carries through all spins and continues climbing as PopWins chains produce consecutive wins. A x10 starting multiplier with a deep chain in Free Spins is where the game's 10,000x cap becomes reachable, not just theoretical.

The Bonus Collector tracks newly landed Bonus symbols during Free Spins. Each one fills a flame. Three flames award +1 Free Spin and reset the counter to zero. The Monkey's Wild Throw feature activates randomly during Free Spins: it either fills the Bonus Collector immediately (awarding the +1 FS without needing organic symbol landings) or throws Wilds into random grid positions, accelerating the PopWins expansion chain by filling reel positions with wild symbols that participate in wins.

Three Ways to Enter

Ante Bet costs 1.5x the standard spin amount (minimum €0.15 vs €0.10 base, up to €450 vs €300). In exchange, the Bonus trigger frequency doubles. It doesn't change what happens in the bonus - just how often you reach it through natural play.

Fortune Bonus at 60x bet enters the Choose Your Fortune sequence with a random initial award. You can still gamble each parameter, still risk losing the whole bonus, still collect whatever was awarded. RTP at 96.04% if you take every awarded value without gambling. The 500x Bonus Max buy is the opposite of Choose Your Fortune: it bypasses randomness and gamble risk entirely, delivering 12 Free Spins, x10 multiplier, and 16,807 starting ways automatically. The gamble interface is disabled because every parameter is already maxed. RTP: 96.34%, the highest available in the game.

What the Sequel Changes

The original MonkeyPop (2022) had a pay-both-ways mechanic - wins counted left-to-right and right-to-left simultaneously. That feature doesn't exist in Monkey Pop 2. The original also had a 20,000x maximum win; this sequel caps at 10,000x. Both reductions are documented facts, not minor adjustments.

What the sequel adds is Choose Your Fortune - a pre-bonus risk layer the original didn't have. Whether that exchange is worthwhile depends on how much the gamble sequence interests you versus how much the ceiling and pay-both-ways mattered. The PopWins core is intact. The rest of the math is tighter. Base game RTP runs at 95.88-95.92%, stepping up through the buy options to 96.34% at Bonus Max.
