Night Trax uses a payline system unlike anything else in ELK's catalog. Beyond the standard 72 horizontal paylines on the 6x4 grid, colored arrow symbols create diagonal connections. These arrows link through their endpoints in multiple directions, forming paylines that snake across the reels instead of following straight paths.
The real trick is splitting. When a diagonal payline hits a junction, it can branch into separate paths. Each split doubles the multiplier: x2 for the first split, x4 for the second, x8, x16, up to x32 for five splits. A single arrow chain that branches five times creates 32 simultaneous paylines from one starting connection. That x32 multiplier applies to each branch individually.
Every payline win triggers Trax Respins. All non-winning symbols respin while winning symbols stay locked. The respins continue as long as new symbols join existing or new paylines. This creates a snowball effect where one initial connection can grow across multiple respin cycles as new arrows and symbols lock into the chain.
At 23.2% hit frequency, the base game triggers Trax Respins fairly often. Most chains stop after 1-2 respins. But occasionally the arrows align across 4-5 cycles, and a modest initial win compounds through splits and extensions into something significant.
Three bonus symbols (which stay sticky during Trax Respins) trigger a completely different game. The bonus grid contains multiplier values, upgrading arrows, and blank spaces. You start with 3 free spins. Landing a multiplier resets the counter to 3.
Upgrading arrows point right and connect multipliers, transferring value from left to right. Multiple arrows can chain between two multipliers, each one adding to the transfer. The mechanic rewards spatial awareness - a multiplier connected through three arrows to another multiplier creates a cascade of value addition.
If every position on the bonus grid fills with multipliers, a Full Board Reset fires. All multiplier values are summed, the board clears, and each remaining countdown spin adds the full total again. It's the game's peak moment, and it's how Night Trax reaches its 10,000x cap.
X-iter tiers include a 250x option for Only Diagonal Arrows mode (3 spins with only arrow symbols and higher split probability), which creates the maximum branching potential the base game can produce. The 500x Super Bonus starts with boosted multiplier values in the bonus grid.
