Oxygen's signature mechanic is positional memory. Every cell on the 6x7 grid tracks its own multiplier. The first win on a position activates an oxygen bubble. The second win there sets it to x2. Each subsequent win doubles it: x4, x8, x16, all the way to x2048. The multiplier for a winning cluster is the sum of all bubble values within that cluster.
In the base game, bubbles reset each round. In the bonus, they persist between free drops. That's where the math gets interesting - a position that wins five times across multiple free drops sits at x16, and every future cluster touching that cell includes that value in the total. By the end of a long bonus round, the grid is layered with accumulated multipliers that compound any new win.
Two special wild types manipulate the grid beyond standard substitution. Exploding Wilds remove all payout symbols in an X-shaped area (diagonals above and below) when they're part of a win. The cleared space fills with new symbols, feeding the avalanche chain while potentially activating bubble positions for the second or third time.
X-Blaster Wilds are more surgical. They pick a random symbol and replace everything in their X-shaped path with that symbol. If the X-Blaster hits another Exploding Wild or X-Blaster, it triggers them too. And if multiple X-Blaster trajectories cross the same position, it becomes a regular wild. These interactions create chain reactions that can reshape half the grid in one avalanche step.
Collector symbols absorb all multiplier values currently visible on the grid and concentrate them into one position. Dealer symbols multiply all multiplier values in a V-shaped area by their own value. Both can be persistent in Super Bonus mode. Getting a Dealer next to several high-value bubbles, then having a Collector sweep up the amplified values, is the path to the 25,000x ceiling.
The 36% hit frequency means the avalanche chain fires on roughly one in three spins. That's generous, and it keeps the bubble multipliers building even in the base game. The 94% RTP is ELK's standard. Combined with 25,000x max win, the volatility profile leans high despite the frequent hits - most wins stay small, but the multiplier system creates exponential growth potential in the bonus round.
X-iter runs from 3x (Bonus Hunt) to 500x (Super Bonus with persistent Collector/Dealer). The 25x tier guarantees a persistent multiplier feature for a single drop, which demonstrates what the system looks like at scale without the full bonus commitment.
