Sam on the Beach picks up where Electric Sam left off. Same troll family - Sam, Sandra, Maggie, and Uncle Ted - now on a Caribbean holiday. It's a 5x3 grid with 243 ways to win, keeping the format identical to its predecessor. ELK bumped the max win from 2,000x to 2,275x for the sequel, which still lands on the modest side compared to modern releases.
Four character symbols (the family members) sit at the top of the paytable. Sam pays the most at 500 coins for five-of-a-kind, Sandra pays 300, Maggie 200, Ted 150. Five low-value sea creature symbols fill out the rest. Wilds appear only on reels 2 and 4 in the base game.
Line up all four family members horizontally across a payline - in any order - and the Beach Memories Respin triggers. All four lock as Sticky Wilds, and reel 5 respins once. If another complete family line appears, it re-triggers. Up to three re-triggers possible.
The trigger condition is specific: all four characters, same row, consecutive reels. No wilds allowed in the combination. When it hits, four sticky wilds across reels 1-4 make that single respin on reel 5 almost guaranteed to connect something. It's a low-frequency, high-impact mechanic.
Three or more Bell scatters trigger free spins: 5 for three bells, 10 for four, 15 for five. Each extra Bell during the bonus adds one spin. The real draw is the Electric Treat system - each family member modifies the bonus differently when three or more of their symbols land.
Sam's Electric Treat turns a random symbol on reels 2-5 into a Sticky Wild for all remaining free spins. Sandra's raises a global win multiplier by one step, up to x8. Ted's plants a Sticky Multiplier (x2 or x3) locked to his symbol position for the rest of the bonus - multiple Ted multipliers stack additively, and Sandra's global multiplier applies on top. Maggie's removes all Maggie and sea animal symbols from view, sliding in fresh symbols for a second payout chance.
The interplay between Sandra and Ted creates the game's biggest potential. Sandra builds a global multiplier while Ted anchors position-based multipliers. Both apply simultaneously. An x8 global from Sandra combined with multiple x2-x3 Ted stickies on active positions generates the kind of compound multiplication that pushes toward the 2,275x ceiling.
This is 2017 ELK - before X-iter, before the Nitropolis universe, before 94% RTP became standard. The 96.3% return and medium-high volatility (7/10 on ELK's scale) reflect that earlier era. No buy bonus option. The game depends entirely on organic free spin triggers and the luck of which Electric Treats fire in the right sequence. That compounds the variance in a way that modern buy-in mechanics bypass.
