Coins, Shields, and Amphora

When Flaming Frames reveal their contents, three symbol types appear. Coins carry flat bet multipliers - Bronze (0.2x to 4x), Silver (5x to 20x), Gold (25x to 500x). Their values add to your total prize directly.

Shields multiply those coin values. Green Shields affect adjacent positions only - a x10 Green Shield next to a 50x Gold Coin turns it into 500x. Red Shields apply globally to every Coin and Amphora on the entire grid. A single x20 Red Shield multiplies everything.

Amphora symbols collect. Each one absorbs the total value of all visible Coins and other Amphora on the grid, then holds that combined amount. They process top-to-bottom, left-to-right, meaning later Amphora collect values that include earlier Amphora totals. Two Amphora on a grid with 100x in coins: the first collects 100x, the second collects 100x plus the first Amphora's 100x = 200x. Pair that with a Red Shield and the numbers compound fast.

If revealed positions still hold unprocessed Flaming Frames after the first cycle, they reveal again. Multiple reveal cycles in one Fortune activation are rare but devastating.

Goddess Respins Drive Everything

The respin mechanic determines how many Flaming Frames you accumulate before Fortune Reveals triggers. Winning symbols stick. Any new win during a respin adds more sticky frames. The chain continues until a respin produces nothing new.

A base game spin that hits a 3-symbol win and stops adds 3 frames. A spin that chains through four respins might accumulate 12-15 frames across the grid. More frames mean more revealed symbols during Fortune, more chances for Shields and Amphora to interact, and a larger total payout.

Fortune symbols need to be present for the reveal to happen at all. In the base game, they appear randomly - sometimes you'll build a grid full of Flaming Frames with no Fortune in sight, and the frames just disappear. That's the central frustration point.

Bonus Tiers Fix the Fortune Problem

Omen of War (3 scatters, 10 spins): Flaming Frames persist across the entire bonus instead of resetting each spin. Frames accumulate over 10 rounds, building a denser grid for whenever Fortune finally triggers. Minimum coin value bumps to 1x (no 0.2x Bronze).

Medium Volatility with a High Ceiling

At 3/5 lightning on Hacksaw's scale, Spear of Athena is gentler than most of their lineup. The 15,000x max win paired with medium volatility is unusual for the studio. Base game sessions produce more frequent small wins through respins and occasional Fortune reveals, but the huge payouts still require the right Shield and Amphora combinations falling into place during bonus rounds.

The Greek mythology theme is well-produced but crowded territory. Temples, owls, helmets, golden filigree - executed at Hacksaw's standard quality but visually interchangeable with a hundred other Greek slots. The mechanic is what sets it apart, not the art direction.
