A carnival night in Venice, three reels, and a single payline running straight through the middle. Venice Festival looks stripped back next to the 5-reel crowd, and it plays that way: five positions on every reel, but two or three of them come up blank, so you are usually watching a couple of masked portraits per reel drift past the pay row.

Symbol pays are small by design. The best three-of-a-kind is worth 5x the bet. That sounds like nothing until the winged-lion Wilds land, because Bronze carries x2, Silver x3 and Golden x5, and when more than one shares the line those multipliers add together rather than multiply. Two of them turn a 5x line into something worth sitting up for.

Everything else rides on the Win Multiplier, a random value that tops out at x10 in the base game and reaches x50 in free spins. The ceiling is 3,789x. Just under a quarter of spins pay something, which for a one-line game is more forgiving than the format suggests.

The reels sit in a cream parchment panel inside a heavy gold baroque frame, hung over a canal in the middle of the afternoon. Two black gondolas with red velvet seats are moored either side, pink confetti is scattered across the flagstones, and pastel townhouses in peach, lilac and terracotta rise up with flower boxes on every ledge. A basilica dome and a campanile sit hazy in the distance.

The high symbols are circular portrait medallions, each ringed in its own colour: a woman in a blue and gold feathered mask, another in a red headdress with ruby drop earrings, a curly-haired young man in a white porcelain half-mask and a stiff ruff collar. The Wilds break that pattern deliberately, square bronze, silver and gold plaques stamped with the winged Lion of St Mark. It reads instantly, which matters when only the centre row counts.

Art is the strong part of the Venetian carnival package. The sound is a light mandolin loop that gets thin over a long session, and the half-blank reels make the panel look underpopulated even mid-spin.

Roughly one spin in four pays, so the balance drains slowly rather than falling off a cliff, but almost all of those hits are pocket change and you feel it. The spin cycle is quick, the reels are half empty, and there is very little visual noise between rounds. It has the rhythm of an old bar-top machine dressed in expensive clothes.

All the tension collects on the Free Spins medallions. Two of them landing is the moment the game finally wakes up: the two reels lock, one spins alone, and those few seconds carry more weight than anything else in the base game. Miss, and you drop straight back into the grind. That single gear change is the whole emotional shape of a session, and after an hour you will probably notice how few of them there are.

Where it works best is on a phone. One line, one row that matters, big legible portraits (the kind of layout you can follow with the sound off on a train), and nothing that needs a second glance to read.

The stacking bronze-silver-gold Wilds carry the base game, the guaranteed multiplier makes the bonus feel like it is always doing something, and the respin turns the usual two-of-three disappointment into a proper beat.

What it cannot escape is the arithmetic of a single line. Wins are frequent and tiny, the 3,789x ceiling needs a x50 multiplier landing on an already-good line, and there is no second feature to break up the wait. For my money it works better in twenty-minute bursts than a long sitting. Beautiful game, narrow one.
