A masked outlaw shoots at the wilds to make them worth more. That is the hook in Bandit Bust, an Evoplay Wild West slot that otherwise sits on an ordinary 5x3 grid with 25 fixed lines.

The Wild Bandit event fires without warning, on any spin, in the base game and in free spins alike. One to six wilds drop onto the reels, the bandit gets six shots at them, and every hit bumps a wild's multiplier by one. Wilds sharing a payline add their multipliers together before the line pays. Nothing else happens on the reels between those events, which leaves a lot of plain paylines to sit through.

Free spins turn the whole thing into a collection round. A three-sector bar above the grid tracks how often the bandit shows up, and filling it unlocks extra revolver cylinders that widen the event: more wilds, more shots, more spins to use them on.

Sunset ochre everywhere. The reels sit on a painted desert plate with mesa buttes fading into haze, a clapboard station house off to the left, a wooden watchtower on the right, and a railroad track running out from under the frame toward the horizon. The reel box is rough timber with gold filigree corners, and the reels behind it are a flat plum brown that pushes the symbols forward nicely.

Symbol art is better than the theme deserves. A mustachioed gent in a top hat and a cowgirl with a purple rose pinned to her brim both get proper painted portraits set in medallion frames, and under them sit a red leather doctor's bag, a green strapped suitcase and a blue clasp purse, all with some weight to them. The royals are letters carved into wood grain, colour-coded teal, blue, green, purple and red, and they crowd out the good art most of the time. The bandit himself, red bandana up and a revolver in each hand, only turns up when his event does. The backdrop is static, though. Nothing on it moves.

Long stretches of very little, then a burst. Premiums top out at 25x for five and the royals pay in fractions of a bet, so a spin without the bandit rarely returns more than a nibble of what it cost. The high volatility label is not a warning here so much as a description of the shape.

The tension sits in the free spins, and it is a race the round usually loses. Reaching that fourth cylinder takes nine separate Wild Bandit triggers inside a bonus that often begins with just 10 spins, so plenty of rounds end on the second cylinder with the bar half filled and nothing left to spin. That is why a +8 from the safe lands harder than a 20x coin prize (you will take the coins, but you will remember the spins). And when the cylinders do stack, a dozen multiplied wilds scattered across 25 fixed lines pays like a different game entirely.

The shooting gimmick earns its place. It does something most random-wild events skip, which is give the player a reason to care about where the wilds land, because their multipliers pool on the line instead of sitting isolated. Everything built around it is standard Evoplay furniture, drawn well and a bit inert. Twenty-five fixed lines on 5x3 in 2024 is a conservative frame for an idea this playful.

Whether it is worth loading comes down to patience. The 12,548x ceiling exists, but it lives at the far end of a four-cylinder run almost nobody completes, and the base game asks for a lot of quiet spins in exchange for the bandit's occasional visit. Fair trade some nights, a grind on others.
