The art says otherwise, loudly.

The base game is a waiting room. Card symbols, small returns, and the only thing that shifts the temperature is a second Book appearing somewhere on the grid. That happens often enough to keep you looking and rarely enough that the dry patches between bonuses run long at medium-high volatility.

Then comes the pick, and everything hangs on it. Draw a priestess and ten spins is plenty of room to build something. Draw the 10s (and the 10s get drawn plenty) and you spend the round hoping the meter empties fast enough to hand you a better symbol before the spins are gone. When the meter does keep resetting, the round changes character completely.
