This is the edition of Evoplay's coin-collecting Chinese slot where you pay to skip straight to the bonus. Everything else carries over from Budai Reels: a 5x3 grid, 20 fixed lines, a golden laughing Budai as Wild, and a respin round that fills the grid with coins for a fixed ladder prize.

The buy costs 37x the total bet. One price, no cheap entry and no premium tier, which matters more than it sounds because the round it opens always starts the same way: three coins locked, three respins on the clock.

RTP is where the two editions part. Normal spins here run 96.08% against the original's 96.13%, and the bought round is set at 96.00%. Small gaps (nobody feels 0.05% over a session), but they only move one direction, and the direction is away from you.

Red on red on red. The reels sit inside a gilded pagoda frame topped by a striped tiled roof, with a bulb-lit marquee above the grid flashing GOOD LUCK in fat yellow letters and cherry blossom sprays curling in from two corners. The background is deep maroon in a fish-scale pattern, a temple carving ghosted faintly into one side. Down the left edge the prize ladder runs on red slats stacked like firecrackers, numbered 15 at the top to 7 at the bottom, so the 5,000x rung is permanently in your eyeline whether you are near it or not.

The symbols are where the budget shows. Budai himself is nicely painted, a round gold figure grinning under a red WILD banner, and the ingots and pierced coins have proper metal weight to them. The card royals do not match at all: flat neon green Q, purple K, blue J, pink 10, chunky and cheap-looking next to the ornate frame around them. On a grid this small they fill most of it, so you end up staring at the weakest art in the game.

Buying turns this into a slot-shaped scratchcard. Press, wait a few seconds, read the coin count, press again. There is no build-up and nothing accumulating between rounds, and after a dozen purchases in a row the loop can feel closer to data entry than gambling.

The rounds do carry tension, just very briefly. Each respin is one beat with a clean answer, and a dead first respin already leaves you two thirds of the way through with nothing gained. That compression is the appeal for some people and the whole problem for others.

Played straight, without touching the button, it drags. Nothing happens between triggers and the line pays are too small to feel like progress, which is presumably why this edition was cut in the first place.

The buy is the whole product here, so judge it on that. 37x for a round that needs eight of fifteen positions filled just to break even is a steep entry, and the flat bottom of the ladder means plenty of purchases hand back a couple of bet units and end. Get past ten coins and the payouts accelerate hard, which is a cleaner shape of tension than most respin games manage.

Harder to defend is what the edition charges for that button. Anyone who was not going to press it gets slightly better returns from the original on exactly the same game, so loading this version only makes sense as a bet that you will use the button often enough for the convenience to be worth the shave.
