I recently spent some time spinning Backseat Gaming's Wonder of Circus, a fairground-themed slot released in July 2026. If you've played their later release, Moon Dynasty, you'll feel right at home here, as they share the same 5x5 grid and core math. But Wonder of Circus has its own distinct rhythm, relying almost entirely on a really volatile wheel mechanic.

Wonder of Circus 5x5 board in the Wheel Bonanza free spins, with three full Wild Reels carrying 2x, 2x and 6x multipliers and a winning line running through all three
Three Wild Reels on one line, and their multipliers add up rather than multiply, so 2x, 2x and 6x make a 10x line.

How the Gameplay Actually Feels

The whole game is built around a lucky wheel symbol that can drop on any given spin. When it lands, it spins to select a number between one and five, and then awards a respin dropping that exact number of wild reels onto the board.

The exciting part is that each of these wild reels carries a multiplier ranging from 2x all the way up to 200x. Even better, if multiple wild reels connect on a winning line, their values add together. When it hits, it can hit hard.

The bonus round comes in two flavors: landing three tickets (or paying 100x your stake) gets you Ticket Rush with 10 free spins, while four tickets (or a 300x buy) gets you Wheel Bonanza with 20. Once you're in the bonus, your chances of landing the wheel definitely go up, but the core mechanics don't change.

Here is where the game will divide players: the wild reels do not stick. They only last for that single respin, and your next free spin starts on a completely blank board. There are also no retriggers. You are basically just getting 10 or 20 chances to land a big wheel spin.

This star is the Lucky Wheel. Once it lands, the respin that follows gets as many Wild Reels as the wheel picks, from one to five.

My Experience with the Bonus

To see what the game was really capable of, I bought Wheel Bonanza, the premium 300x bonus. I actually walked away with a fantastic result, winning about 4.6x the cost of the buy (roughly 1,370x my base stake), but the way it played out tells you everything you need to know about this slot's volatility.

Most of that payout came from a single lucky wheel. The wheel rolled a "3," dropping wild reels with 7x, 6x, and 7x multipliers. They connected perfectly, adding up to a 20x multiplier that resulted in a massive hit. However, outside of three wheel respins, the rest of the bonus was incredibly quiet. Without the wheel, the free spins don't offer much action. You really are at the mercy of the wheel.

There's also the "Special Spins" mode, which costs 30x your base bet per spin and guarantees a wheel drop. It's a fun option, but it's still a gamble: the wheel is guaranteed, a winning line through its wild reels is not. (There's also Bonus Boost, which costs 2x your bet per spin, if you just want to boost your chances of landing the bonus naturally.)

Wonder of Circus respin with Wild Reels of 7x on reel 1, 6x on reel 2 and 7x on reel 5, the biggest hit of the Wheel Bonanza round
The wheel picked three, and a line that ran all the way across picked up 7x plus 6x plus 7x, a 20x line. One respin like this carried most of the round.

How it Compares to Other Games

If you're trying to decide whether Wonder of Circus is for you, it helps to compare it to similar games.

Its closest neighbour is Backseat's own Moon Dynasty. Both have a 96.01% RTP and a 10,000x max win. But where Moon Dynasty collects all your multipliers for one dramatic, final placement spin at the end of the bonus, Wonder of Circus pays you out instantly on every respin and wipes the board clean. It really just comes down to whether you prefer building up a pot or chasing sudden, random spikes of luck. (Backseat's Toad Town is another similar option, though it's a bit more complex with a collection ladder and a 12,500x max win).

Outside of this studio, the most obvious comparison is Pragmatic Play's Zeus vs Hades - Gods of War. Both use a 5x5 grid with adding wild multipliers. The big difference? Zeus vs Hades caps its multipliers at 100x but makes the wilds sticky during the free spins. Wonder of Circus pushes the multipliers up to 200x, but takes the sticky wilds away.

Wonder of Circus is a very fair, straightforward slot, but it requires patience. Because the grid wipes clean after every spin, it lacks the compounding momentum you get in games with sticky wilds. However, if you're a fan of highly volatile games where a single spin can completely make your session, those 200x adding multipliers offer plenty of thrill.

A plain Wonder of Circus free spin with no Lucky Wheel and no Wild Reels on the 5x5 board
Right after a big respin the next free spin starts from a plain board. No Wild Reel or multiplier is banked for later, which is the opposite of how Moon Dynasty builds its bonus.
