Gates of Olympus 1000 takes the formula that made the original a top-10 slot globally and turns the multiplier dial from 500x to 1,000x. The max win jumps from 5,000x to 15,000x. Everything else - the 6x5 grid, scatter pays, tumble mechanics, Zeus dropping multiplier orbs from the clouds - stays the same.
That might sound lazy. It isn't. The original's only real criticism was that the ceiling felt low for a very high volatility game. 5,000x with multipliers stacking to 500x left too many bonus rounds ending around 200-400x. Tripling the cap and doubling the maximum orb value gives the free spins round actual teeth.
No paylines. Eight or more matching symbols anywhere on the 30-position grid count as a win. After each win, those symbols vanish, everything above falls down, new symbols fill in from the top. This keeps going until nothing new connects. Standard tumble mechanic, but it works well here because the grid is large enough to chain three or four cascades regularly.
Zeus occasionally tosses multiplier orbs onto the grid - glowing spheres with values from 2x up to 1,000x. They don't contribute to wins directly. Instead, when a tumble sequence ends, all visible orb values get added together and that total multiplies your win for the entire sequence. Land a 100x and a 250x orb during the same cascade chain and your combined wins get hit with a 350x multiplier.
Four scatter symbols trigger 15 free spins. The critical difference from the base game: multiplier orbs don't reset between spins. They accumulate across the entire round. Spin one drops a 5x orb, spin two adds a 25x - now you're at 30x for every remaining win. By spin ten or eleven, that running total can reach hundreds or even thousands.
Three scatters during the round award 5 extra spins. No limit on retriggers mentioned in the rules, which means extended rounds with massive multiplier buildup are technically possible. Special reels load during the feature with adjusted symbol frequencies.
The 15,000x cap ends the round early if hit. Given the potential for 1,000x orbs stacking on top of each other, that ceiling is reachable - about 1 in 2.75 million spins according to the game data.
Two ways to increase your chances at free spins. The Ante Bet adds 25% to your wager and doubles the scatter frequency on the reels. At max coin, that pushes the total bet from $100 to $125. Trade-off: the max win drops from 15,000x to 12,000x in Ante mode, and the Buy Feature becomes unavailable.
The Buy Feature costs 100x your total bet and guarantees four scatters on the next spin. Available only at the normal bet level. At $1 base bet, that's $100 for a guaranteed entry into free spins. Whether that's worth it depends on how long you're willing to wait - free spins trigger naturally about once every 448 spins.
Gates of Olympus 1000 finished 2024 as the number one rated slot across major slot review communities. The original was already one of the most-played games in history, and the 1000 version captured the audience that wanted higher ceilings. A Christmas reskin - Gates of Olympus Xmas 1000 - launched in December 2024 and immediately cracked the top five.
The game sits in the sweet spot where casual players recognize the Gates of Olympus brand and high-stakes streamers chase the 15,000x cap. Not every sequel upgrade works. This one did, because Pragmatic Play only changed what needed changing and left the core loop alone.
