Gates of Olympus Pachi throws out the 6x5 scatter pay grid that defines the rest of the series. In its place: a compact 3x3 layout with 27 ways to win, paying left to right across adjacent reels. No tumble feature. No multiplier symbols raining down during base game spins. The entire gameplay loop has been rebuilt around a layered progression system that borrows its name from Japanese pachislot machines.
Pachislots are the electronic slot descendants of pachinko, Japan's massive gaming industry. Japanese law requires them to have exactly three reels. Pragmatic Play took that constraint and built something structurally different from any other Gates title - this is the only variant in the series where the core mechanic isn't scatter-pay tumbling.
Base game spins are straightforward: match symbols across 27 ways, collect your payout. The interesting stuff starts when a scatter lands in the center of the grid. That triggers Thunder Spins - reels with scatters lock, remaining reels respin. If all three reels show scatters, you enter the Free Spins path.
Before free spins actually start, a Mini Game plays on a separate 3x3 grid. It works like a respin collection game: free spins symbols with values from 1 to 16 land and stick. You start with 3 respins, and each new symbol resets the counter. When respins run out or the grid fills, the total of all values becomes your free spins count. Stacked reels and guaranteed wins make every spin count during the feature.
Collect 12 scatters during free spins and you unlock the endgame: Super Free Spins. Another mini game determines a multiplier using the same respin-and-collect logic, except now the symbols carry multiplier values from x1 to x91. The sum becomes a global multiplier for 3 Super Free Spins - all played on stacked reels with guaranteed wins.
That x91 per symbol is among the highest individual multiplier values in any Pragmatic Play slot. Fill the grid during the Super Mini Game and the accumulated multiplier can reach territory where even modest 3-of-a-kind wins produce serious results. The 5,000x cap keeps things grounded, but the path to get there feels different from the standard Gates formula.
Two purchase tiers: 70x total bet for Free Spins, 300x for Super Free Spins (skipping the scatter collection requirement entirely). RTP sits at 96.04% across all modes. That's slightly below the standard Gates 96.50% but well within acceptable range.
Gates of Olympus Pachi is part of Pragmatic Play's "Pachi" mini-series alongside Starlight Princess Pachi. Both share the 3x3 format and layered bonus structure. Zeus still presides over the reels in golden armor, the purple-and-gold color scheme stays true to the Gates aesthetic, and the gemstone symbols translate to the smaller grid without losing clarity.
Released November 2024 on Pragmatic Play's newer v4 engine, this is genuinely the most mechanically distinct Gates variant. Every other title in the series is some combination of 6x5 scatter pays with tumbles and multipliers. This one scraps all of that for a progression-based bonus system built around respins and mini games. Whether that's better depends on what you want from a Gates slot - the tumble-and-multiply loop or a slower build toward multiplied payouts.
