Mayan Stackways drops the wild symbol entirely. Instead, the entire game revolves around the Stackways mechanic - a special symbol that, when it lands, fills its reel with 2 to 10 identical stacked symbols. The game picks whichever symbol creates the longest winning combination at that moment. So the stack is always useful if it fires, and it always creates a win.
A base grid of 5x4 gives 1,024 default ways. When Stackways fills multiple reels, the way count balloons. Max all five reels to 10 symbols each and you're looking at 100,000 winning ways. That's the ceiling, and it rarely happens, but the math is there.
Three skull scatters start Stack Spins with 10 free spins and boosted Stackways frequency. A Reel Activator symbol locks Stackways onto its reel for the rest of the feature, so by the end you might have 3-4 reels permanently stacking. Three more scatters during the round add 4 extra spins.
Four scatters trigger Mayan Gold - a different beast altogether. Coin symbols land on the grid with values attached: bronze coins from 1x to 5x, silver from 10x to 20x, gold from 25x all the way up to 1,000x. These values sit above each reel. When a Stackways symbol lands, it fills the reel with coins at the stored value, and that reel locks. A Collect symbol gathers everything into a vault and unlocks the reels for another round. The feature ends when all five reels lock at the same time.
Multiplier symbols (2x through 5x) show up during Mayan Gold to boost individual reel values. The interaction between coin values, multipliers, and the Stackways stacking creates the path to the 10,000x cap.
Five scatters - a rare trigger - launch the same Mayan Gold mode but with every reel starting at 50x value. That's a 250x floor before a single coin lands, which is where the Hidden Epic Bonus badge on the splash screen comes from.
The setting is a Mayan temple ruin in dense jungle. A skeletal warrior figure stands beside the grid in full feathered headdress with glowing red eyes. High-pay symbols are colorful Mayan artifacts - masks, totems, jade pieces - while low-pays are standard card letters in golden Mayan font. The stone-carved grid frame fits the theme well.
Without wilds, the base game relies on natural matches and occasional Stackways triggers. The paytable is flat on the low end (all five low symbols pay identical 0.1x for three of a kind), which means base game returns are modest. The architecture funnels excitement into the bonus modes, and the Mayan Gold round specifically. That's intentional design, but it means long stretches of thin wins between features.
