ELK calls it "time-based evolution." Pirots 4 shipped as a space-themed game (Lost in Space), then added Frozen Fury (Ice) and Inferno (Fire) as separate variants. Same birds, same 6x6-8x8 grid, same CollectR core. But each variant has its own villain, coin game, and exclusive mechanic. You pick which world to play before each session.
The base game switched from cluster pays to all-ways. At 6x6, that's 46,656 ways. At 8x8 max, it's 16,777,216 ways. Corner bombs replace the center-grid bombs and dynamite from earlier entries - four bombs sit at the inner corners and detonate to expand the grid, simultaneously revealing a space station tunnel system around the perimeter. At max grid, space portals let birds teleport between corners.
Space variant: the Space Bandit collects symbols column by column. When the Bandit encounters a bird, a spaceship duel triggers. If the Bandit wins, a spaceship multiplier increases. Bandit defeating all four birds launches the Lost in Space coin game on an 8x8 grid with bridge symbols connecting isolated areas.
Ice variant: a Yeti sits in a 4x4 freeze zone. Collecting a Yeti Horn triggers Yeti Snack Time - the Yeti grabs and freezes birds, removing them from play. Each freeze doubles the Yeti's multiplier, starting at 1x and scaling up to 262,144x theoretically. Frozen Fury coin game runs on an 8x8 grid with the freeze zone active. The exponential multiplier is the Ice variant's defining risk-reward calculation.
Fire variant: Fire Minions light birds on fire, sending them on a fire marathon - the burning bird runs random steps across the grid, marking mystery fires at levels 1 through 4. The Inferno coin game expands to 9x9 (the only variant that exceeds 8x8) and includes Charlie's special "Don't Press" button for triggering corner bombs. The 9x9 grid is the largest play area in any Pirots game.
Beneath the variant differences, the bird collection loop is unchanged from Pirots 1. Four birds collect matching-color gems orthogonally. Collection meters release feature symbols. Transform, Upgrade, and Upgrade All push gem values across 7 payout levels. Switcheroo swaps adjacent birds. Power Clash fires when 3+ birds cluster together, removing gems in a 5x5 area and launching birds in random directions.
Spacecorn (popcorn in space) bridges empty gaps. Coin symbols pay their face value. The 500x Super Bonus buys max grid with global upgrades. The variant-specific X-iter options at 25x and 50x buy guaranteed access to each world's exclusive feature and coin game, which is the cleanest way to test all three variants without organic triggers.
