Pirots introduced CollectR in March 2023, and it went on to spawn four sequels. The mechanic throws out paylines, ways-to-win, and cascades entirely. Four colored birds sit on a 5x5 grid. Each bird moves orthogonally (up, down, left, right) and collects adjacent gems that match its color. That's the win mechanic. No lines connecting symbols. No tumbling. Just birds moving across the grid, eating gems.
Each gem type has 5 upgrade levels. Level 1 pays 0.05x per gem. Level 5 pays 15x. Upgrade symbols boost same-color gems by 1-3 levels, while multicolored upgrades hit all four gem types at once. A cluster of fully-upgraded gems collected by a single bird produces the kind of multiplied payouts that typically require cascading multipliers in other slots.
The grid starts at 5x5 but bombs expand it - one step per explosion, up to 8x8. More grid space means more gems per drop, more room for birds to collect, and more feature symbols entering play. At 8x8 (64 positions vs. the starting 25), the number of possible gem clusters and bird paths grows fast.
When a bird fills its collection meter, 3 gems transform into feature symbols - upgrade, bomb, transform, wild, bonus, or coin. The collection meter acts as a steady drip of feature symbols fed back into the grid. More collecting means more features means more collecting. It's a loop, and the longer it runs, the more value it generates.
When no bird has an adjacent gem to collect, the round normally ends. But Switcheroo fires first - two adjacent birds randomly swap positions. If the swap creates new collectible clusters, the round continues. It's a second-chance mechanic that extends promising rounds and kills dead ones faster (no adjacent gems in either position = done).
Three bonus symbols collected by birds trigger 5 Free Drops. Grid size, collection meter progress, and gem upgrade levels all carry over. A base game round that expanded the grid to 7x7 and upgraded two gem types before triggering the bonus gives Free Drops a running start. The bonus doesn't reset - it builds on whatever the base game achieved.
X-iter ranges from 3x (quadruple bonus chance) to 500x (Super Bonus with max grid and all upgrades applying globally). The 25x option drops you straight onto an 8x8 grid for one spin - a quick test of what the full grid feels like without committing to the bonus price.
