Four jackpot meters run across the top of a graffiti-covered alleyway, and the base game cannot win a single one of them. That is the shape of DJ Jungle Jams: an 80s hip-hop slot where Mega, Major, Minor and Mini sit in plain sight from the first spin and stay locked until free spins begin. The jungle in the title turns up there too. Lions, elephants, giraffes and hippos exist only inside the bonus.

Getting in is simple. Three, four or five vinyl records anywhere award 15, 20 or 25 free spins, with no retriggers, so the count you land with is the count you finish with. Once the round starts the spray-can wild stops sitting still and the animals begin dropping onto the 5x3 grid. Five or more of one animal awards its jackpot tier: 250x for lions, 75x for elephants, 25x for giraffes, 10x for hippos.

Which makes the advertised ceiling worth a second look. The game promises 2,625 coins, and a coin here is the per-line stake, not the total stake. On the 4.00 default that comes to 1,050.00, or 262x. Listings printing 2,625x have taken a coin figure and added an x to it. And 250 of that 262x is the lion jackpot, so the regular paytable on its own gets nowhere close.

The reels sit in a night alleyway: brick walls tagged in blue and magenta, a leaning ONE WAY sign on the left, a streetlight throwing pink glare across the top of the frame, tower blocks with lit windows a few streets back. Premiums are a pink-and-orange boombox with blue speaker cones, a rainbow-striped cassette, a gold dollar-sign medallion on a heavy chain, and a pair of navy-and-gold sneakers. Royals are chunky spray-paint letters in lime, red, yellow and pink. The wild is a blue spray can with a green splat down its side, and the scatter is a black vinyl record with a pink star on a lime label.

The music half of the theme is handled well. The jungle half is not on the reels at all. A lion in headphones and a giraffe in a cap front the game, yet neither appears in the base game, so for most of a session this is a straight street-art slot carrying an odd name. Art is clean, colours are loud in the right way. The background never moves though, and after a hundred spins the alley starts to read as wallpaper.

The base game is quiet work. Ten lines across five reels, most wins landing under a single unit of stake, no cascades, nothing accumulating between spins. Those four meters glow above the reels the whole time and may as well be a poster. There is nothing to build toward. You are waiting for three records and that is the entire job.

The bonus changes the texture completely. A wild that relocates every spin keeps small wins ticking over so the round rarely goes dead, and the animals give you something to count, which is a different kind of tension from watching a multiplier climb. Most rounds finish with three or four of a colour and nothing to show for it. That is where the sting is. When a fifth one drops the game finally does something, and probably the design leans harder on that one moment than it should, because a whole round can pass without a single flicker of jackpot pressure while the base game gives you nothing to enjoy in the meantime.

This is a small game wearing a big jackpot panel. The art direction is likeable and the free spins round has a decent internal rhythm, but every prize worth having sits behind one trigger with no retrigger and a five-symbol target that fifteen positions do not hand out often. Take the animals out and what is left is a ten-line video slot from a decade ago.

What it comes down to is whether four meters reachable through a single door is enough of an idea to carry a game. Genii has built better, and the jackpot concept deserved a base game that took part in it rather than just displaying the numbers above the reels. At 0.10 a spin it is cheap enough to find out.
