A drowned Atlantis with cartoon fish drifting through it, and a gold trident sitting on the middle reel that decides what any given spin is actually worth. The grid is three wide and three tall. Five fixed lines, left to right, and only three of a kind can pay because there is nowhere else for a combination to go.

The line game is thin and Evoplay knows it. Bonus coins land on the outer reels carrying cash values of 1x to 15x your bet, or one of four fixed jackpots running from 20x up to 1000x, and none of that money exists until a Trident shows up to collect it. So the middle reel is the whole game. Everything else is scenery with fins.

One small thing in the studio's favour before the criticism starts: the game bills itself at 8,000x, while the ceiling is actually 8,038x. After a run of releases across this industry advertising caps they cannot reach, a company understating its own game by 38x deserves the sentence.

The setting is a sunken marble city, and it is painted with more care than the game needs. Colonnades and arched bridges recede into teal water on both sides, seahorses and scallop shells carved in relief on the pillars, light shafts coming down from a surface you cannot see. The reel frame is a temple pediment with gilded Corinthian capitals, and piled on top of it is a spilled hoard of coins, a red ruby, a purple gem and a conch shell.

Then the symbols arrive and the whole thing changes register. Pairs of grinning cartoon fish, orange pufferfish with blue fins, fat yellow goldfish, red ones, purple and pink clownfish, plus green turtles and a pair of dolphins. Higher up the ladder are a black pearl resting in an orange scallop and a chest of gold with a purple octopus draped over the lid. The underwater ruins say lost civilisation; the fish say mobile match-three. They do not live in the same picture.

The jackpot ladder runs down the left in stacked plaques, red for GRAND, green for SUPER, blue for MEGA, purple for MINI, showing cash rather than multiples, so at a 10.00 stake the GRAND reads 10,000.00 and the numbers move with your bet. Bonus coins are fat gold discs stamped with their value. The Trident is a gold three-prong inside a ring, ringed with white light, and it is the only symbol on the reels that looks like it means business.

Roughly one spin in five pays something, and most of those are 1x or 2x, which at a 10.00 bet means the balance ticks back up by twenty cents and you carry on. That is the texture of the base game. It is a waiting room with fish in it.

What keeps it watchable is how narrow the point of interest is. There is exactly one reel that matters and one symbol you want on it, so the eye goes straight to the middle every spin and the outcome resolves in about a second. No ways counter, no cascade to sit through, nothing to decode. For my money that compactness is the best thing about the whole design, and it is also why the game can feel a little empty on a long session, because once you have seen the trident do its three tricks there is no fourth.

The bonus rounds run longer than the three-spin counter suggests, since every new coin or Trident hands the counter back to three, and there is a real pull to those stretches where the board keeps refilling and the multipliers keep flipping overhead. Then it stops, the fish come back, and you are in the waiting room again.

The Trident carries this game single-handed. Take it out and you have a 3x3 with five lines and a 50x top pay, which is nothing anyone would load twice. Put it back and every spin has a middle reel worth watching, plus a jackpot ladder that gives a short session somewhere to aim. That is a lot of weight on one symbol and it mostly holds.

Where it gets awkward is next door in Evoplay's own catalogue. Sea of Wealth: Hunt for Coins landed seven months later on a 5x3 grid with a 10,000x ceiling and a marginally better hit rate, and it returns 95.81% against this game's 96.15%. Bigger, longer, thinner. The studio made the same trade on Scratch Match Deluxe, which gives back 1.4 points less than its 2019 original in exchange for a cap two and a half times higher. Once is a decision. Twice looks like a house policy, and it is worth watching whichever of these you load.

There are already more Hold and Win games in the water than anyone can count and this one does not change that. It just does more with nine positions than most games that size bother to attempt, and it hides one genuinely nasty rule in plain sight while doing it.
